U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Central Arkansas Flotilla 15-8

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Central Arkansas Flotilla 15-8 We are actively seeking local volunteers to assist in boating education, vessel safety, and marine safety and security activities. The U.S. U.S.

Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard. Created by an Act of Congress in 1939, the Auxiliary directly supports the Coast Guard in all missions, except military and law enforcement actions. The Coast Guard’s philosophy is to be SEMPER PARATUS (ALWAYS READY) against all threats and all hazards. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is an integral part of that

philosophy and the Coast Guard Forces. We conduct safety patrols on local waterways, assist the Coast Guard with homeland security duties, teach boating safety classes, conduct free vessel safety checks for the public, as well as many other activities. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 17 years old, and pass a basic check. There are no upper age limits or height/weight standards, although for operational activities, you must be physically able to perform certain tasks. There are no minimum service hours – you can serve as little or as much as you want. You do not have to own a boat or participate in water-based operations to join the Auxiliary. Finally, the Auxiliary supports its members through local unit meetings, regional conferences and enjoys heartfelt fellowship with each other. Coast Guard Auxiliary Comment Policy

Volunteer for the 2026 National Recreational Boating Safety Survey!

Body: The National Recreational Boating Safety Survey (NRBSS) is a nationwide survey sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard to understand how many people go boating, what types of boats they use, and how often they are on the water. As part of the survey, we are asking for volunteers to complete a brief sign-up page asking about their boating habits and share their contact information with the Coast Guard so a wide range of boaters can be invited to participate in the larger NRBSS survey later in the year.

To volunteer, please go to: https://norcfed.gov1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0ezfBlrTYxLdG4e.

Thank you for completing the survey.

On August 26, Ellen Sullivan from U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Central Arkansas Flotilla 15-8 and Debbie Blackburn from USCG Auxiliary, Heartland District, Flotilla 15-07 Hot Springs, AR participated in an Arkansas Canoe Club float on the Saline River near Benton to highlight the Auxiliary's AUXPAD program. This program puts Auxiliary members on the water in canoes and kayaks to demonstrate proper use of safety equipment and build relationships with the paddlecraft community to promote recreational boating safety. May 16-May 22, 2026 was declared Arkansas Safe Boating Week by Proclamation of Governor Sarah Sanders.

The Proclamation was presented to Arkansas State Boating Law Administrator SGT Sydney Grant, of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, by newly certified AuxPAD Operators Ellen Sullivan of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 15 - Arkansas - 8th Western Rivers and Deborah Blackburn of USCG Auxiliary, Heartland District, Flotilla 15-07 Hot Springs, AR. Immediately following the presentation, the AuxPad program was explained to SGT Grant and how it will promote safe boating practices on our inland waters.
The operators, who are also Auxiliary Vessel Examiners, went on to conduct 44 Vessel Safety Checks at Lake Catherine State Park & Marina.

Dialing in on the rapidly escalating numbers of paddle craft and increase in fatal accidents is a sobering way to start off Safe Boating Week…BUT, by instilling safety through education, training, and support, we can help paddlers defend themselves from the threat of accidents, and maintain an overall safe, orderly and resilient waterway system.

Consider taking a AGFC Safe Boating Course and wear a life jacket when on or around the water!
