Residential Structure Fire

At approximately 8:00 a.m. this morning, North Little Rock Fire Department crews responded to a reported residential structure fire in the area of 34th Street and Sycamore Street.

Engine 6 arrived on scene and found smoke coming from the roof of the residence. Firefighters from Engine 6 initiated a fire attack in the attic of the home, with additional support from Engine 3, Rescue 6, and other responding crews.

The fire was brought under control within minutes. Primary search of the home confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. Tarps and salvage covers were used to prevent water damage to the occupants' belongings. The residence sustained limited damage.

Great work by all crews for their quick response and efficient, coordinated efforts.

It is with a heavy heart that we pause to mourn the loss of Firefighter Juan Antonio Smith II, a member of Rockdale County Fire Rescue in Conyers, Georgia, who was killed in the line of duty on June 12, 2026.

Firefighter Smith, just 26 years old, lost his life when the ladder truck he was riding in was involved in a rollover crash while responding to an emergency call. He answered the call to serve his community just as firefighters across this nation do every day, without hesitation and with a commitment to helping others.

This tragedy is a sobering reminder of the risks firefighters face every time they respond, whether to a fire, medical call, rescue, or any other emergency. The dangers of this profession extend far beyond the fireground, and even routine responses can change lives in an instant.

On behalf of the North Little Rock Fire Department, we extend our deepest condolences to Firefighter Smith’s family, friends, and the members of Rockdale County Fire Rescue. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, brother. We have it from here.

Thinking About Becoming a North Little Rock Firefighter? Let’s Talk About It.

Deciding to take the first step isn’t always easy. There are a lot of things to consider. Here are a few common reasons people hesitate, and why you might just be ready to answer the call anyway:

Why you might be holding back:
“I’m not sure I’m ready.”
“I don’t know if I have the training or experience.”
“What if the timing isn’t right?”
“It’s a big commitment.”

But here’s why you SHOULD take that step:
You’ll grow stronger than you ever thought possible physically, mentally, and emotionally.
You’ll join a team that feels like family.
You’ll receive elite-level training. You’ll be trusted to make a difference in someone’s life on their worst day.
You’ll serve with pride and purpose.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign… this is it. You don’t have to be fearless; you just have to be ready to try. We’ll be with you every step of the way.

Happy Friday, Dogtown!

A lot of what we do revolves around fire, but it’s definitely not all we do.

Take Rescue 6 and Engine 7 A Shift yesterday. They spent part of the afternoon doing some advanced auto extrication training, which basically means tearing cars apart on purpose in the name of getting better at our job.

It’s not every day you get to cut a car in half, learn something new, and have a good time doing it.

As always, stay safe, stay happy, and have a fantastic weekend!

Seconds Matter: A Look at Extreme Fire Conditions

These images were captured from a firefighter’s helmet cam during a commercial structure fire that crews responded to yesterday at approximately 10:30 AM.

The incident unfolded so quickly that these images had to be captured frame by frame to show what was happening. Everything shown here transpired in less than 30 seconds.

Turnout gear is designed to protect firefighters from extreme heat, flames, steam, and other hazards. If you look closely, you can see smoke and v***r coming from the firefighter’s arm and helmet, even while operating just outside the doorway and flowing water. A visible indication of just how intense the conditions were.

The firefighter suffered first- and second-degree burns to his arm and hip, but is thankfully doing great. He was more than happy to share this experience as a learning opportunity and to help others better understand the realities of the fireground.

Perhaps the most eye-opening part is how quickly it happened. From the moment the firefighter approached the structure to the conditions shown in these images, only seconds passed.

These images are a powerful reminder of the extreme environments firefighters across the country face every day while protecting their communities.

At approximately 11:33 a.m., North Little Rock firefighters responded to a reported 18-wheeler fire at the Petro Truck Stop, located at 3205 Highway 391.

Fire crews arrived to find the tractor-trailer heavily involved in fire and immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control and prevented further extension of the fire.

Fortunately, the trailer was empty at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported.
