North Liberty City Government

North Liberty City Government The official page of the City of North Liberty, connected to what matters since Nov. 10, 1913. North Liberty is connected to what matters. B. C. D. E. F. G. H. I.

North Liberty is a thriving, young community in the heart of Iowa City-Cedar Rapids region; a family-friendly small town but with easy access to big-city amenities. We work, at the headquarters of local media, regional financial and national transportation companies or with solar energy and tech startups and entrepreneurs getting their big ideas off the ground. North Liberty is a place where we play, as home to sweeping sunsets over backyards and open fields, ice cream on the way home from baseball after school, miles of trails and acres of parks. We grow, with new schools and new residents, with rain gardens and heart, and from toddlers to teenagers. And we kid, with great schools, recreation and library programs and with each other at work, school and on the local restaurant patio. North Liberty is home to neighbors you know and people you love, and a place near Hawkeye sports, world-class healthcare, performing arts and shopping in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.

Today kicks off Welcoming Week.

Over the past year, we worked with Johnson County on its application to become a Certified Welcoming Community by Welcoming America, and this is the first local Welcoming Week under that designation.

_____

WHEREAS, North Liberty’s success depends on making sure that all community members feel welcome and invited here. Today, new residents are a crucial element of our community — bringing fresh perspectives and ideas, starting businesses, and contributing to the vibrant diversity that we all value; and

WHEREAS, by collaborating, coworking, and living in unity, we can achieve greater prosperity and make North Liberty the kind of place where people from around the world feel valued and want to put down their roots; and

WHEREAS, regardless of where we are born or what we look like, we are North Liberty residents, united in our efforts to build a stronger community and recognizing the contributions that make our city more inclusive to all who call it home; and

WHEREAS, we seek to come together to build communities where every resident can contribute at their best and highest abilities; and

WHEREAS, we encourage our residents to join this movement of communities nationwide by participating in local Welcoming Week events and by demonstrating commitment to our core American values by acting in the spirit of welcoming.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Chris Hoffman, Mayor of North Liberty, proclaim the week of September 10 – 19, 2026 to be: Welcoming Week in North Liberty.
