It’s that time of year again. We are thrilled it’s our nations birthday, and just like everyone else, we love to celebrate. We would like to remind the community that fireworks are only legal July 3rd, 4th, and 5th as well as the Friday Saturday and Sunday immediately before and after July 4th.

It is also illegal to set off fireworks while under the influence of alcohol. I’m sure every person would love to keep their fingers this year and all we want to do is assist with that.

We kindly ask that you don’t make us the bad guy and confiscate the fireworks. Help us help you have a safe and legal celebration.

SCAM ALERT

Today our agency was approached by a resident who was, at the time, on the phone with a subject identifying themselves as North Lewisburg Police Chief Scott Bodey. Thankfully the victim was familiar with Chief Bodey and knew that he did not have a heavy accent as the caller did. The suspect was threatening arrest if the victim did not go to a jewelry store and purchase high dollar amount gold bars. Chief Bodey did listen to the call and did overhear the threat of arrest made by the subject to the victim. The victim was also advised to not speak of the matter to other parties. More so concerning, the subject did have knowledge of the victims bank account information.

It is OK to be suspicious. If you suspect a call to be fraudulent or a scam, simply disconnect and call back to your local law enforcement agency.

Our agency will never directly request funds, either it be cash, gift cards, or gold bars.

We have not received reports about this yet, but I would like to stress to the community that this behavior is not a simple harmless prank. This type of behavior will not be tolerated.

Dear Champaign County Residents,

Following the security breach that affected the county’s previous alerting system, CodeRED, in November, the county has taken steps to ensure a more secure and reliable method of delivering emergency notifications.

We are pleased to introduce our new alerting platform, Everbridge. This system offers enhanced security, dependable performance, and a unified solution for sending emergency messages. Everbridge is trusted by millions of users across more than 200 countries and territories and incorporates over 325 security controls. It delivers real-time alerts and instructions through multiple channels, including SMS, email, desktop notifications, and voice calls.

Please note that all residents must complete a new registration to receive alerts through Everbridge, even if you were previously signed up for CodeRED. Without registration, you will not receive emergency notifications.

We strongly encourage you to follow the registration instructions as soon as possible to stay informed and protected.

Starting today, Ronald (Robot Operated Nightly Assistant Logistics Device) will be patrolling the streets of North Lewisburg using AI technology. Ronald is powered by 3 AAA batteries and has a supplemental power source fueled by donuts and coffee. Ronald would like to remind everyone that with warmer temperatures among us, drivers should be more alert to children playing near roadways and riding bicycles.

Officer Huff completed his 40 hour Crisis Intervention training (CIT) this week. CIT training teaches people how to recognize, de-escalate, and safely respond to individuals experiencing mental health crises, reducing harm and promoting appropriate care instead of force or arrest.
