Karen Kuzminsky for North Kingstown School Committee Greetings Everyone! I am an Independent candidate for change within our school district. I am free of political ideology or special interests.

I have not run for office before and I offer fresh perspective and new ideas. I am a mother of two children and have 20 years of experience advocating strongly for their needs within public schools. I would like to offer a voice for concerned parents in support of creating safe learning environments and balanced curriculum for children of all ages. Five years of working for a community driven, co

ntinuing education center, as the program coordinator and assistant director, I understand the value of listening in order to support the wide and various needs of many. A wide range of ages and learning styles requires many types of supports I see the health and well-being of all students as a priority.! Transparency of school curriculum and the following of school policies, federal, and Rhode Island laws must be upheld. Supporting parents and families in having a voice in their children’s education is important to me. Working to hire more mental health professionals within the schools to support teachers and staff as well as students is imperative. Children need a safe learning environment and this is possible if teachers and all students are respected, nurtured and supported. Learning how to be part of a healthy family, contribute to the community, financial literacy, trade school, and college preparation need to be emphasized so that children grow to be healthy contributors of society. Community Schools are important to the sustainability of towns like North Kingstown. Families can thrive more when children have less school anxiety and parents can more easily build support networks.
That would most likely be lost.
What business is it of RIDE to take our older school buildings and turn them into low income housing?
This feels like overreach of RIDE to me!

As many of us in NK are acknowledging the decades of horrendous abuse to students, it is also being said in our community, that “people need to move forward and not be mired to the past.”I feel this not only dismissive, but heartless. Countless students present and past need our support and need ACTION finally taken.
A more thoughtful, compassionate member of our community asked the question as to why CRT is pushed so strongly while children and families right here are expected to just move forward?
I wholeheartedly agree.
Our priority needs to be the protection of our children through ACTION!
What’s right under our noses needs our compassion!

Hello Concerned Community Members,
How do we move forward ensuring the safety and well-being of our NK students? I was asked to keep this simple, so here goes at least a start....

1. We implement safety recommendations from Judge McGuirl.
(SC received these June 2022, after taxpayers spent 25K for this. To date nothing has been started!)

2. Hold NK school administration accountable to handle, not ignore, student reports of misconduct, abuse, or violence. Action must be taken by the schools and by the SC.

3. Have clear communication between the school and NKPD and DCYF, utilizing their expertise. School administration must follow their own policies, RI law and sign and file reports promptly.

4. Increase mental health care professionals within all schools. Perhaps, offer a signing bonus to get adequate staff.

5. We must keep insisting on transparency. Parents and taxpayers need to know the school learning environment is the best for students and staff.

Much can be added to this list! I am envisioning us all collaborating towards many goals. There is much work ahead, but we can reinstate NK as the best school district in RI again!
