Topics at the November 6, 2018, 7P.M. Regular City Council meeting included : (1.) Approval of a short-term conditional use permit to "close vehicular traffic on Howell Street from E. 23 Ave. to E.25 Ave. from now until about March,2019. Yes, the closure of this vehicle traffic for about five months!! The reason for such traffic closure is due to concerns of mixing pedestrians (composing mostly High School Students) with vehicle traffic (mostly construction equipment & trucks) along with regular traffic during the construction process @ N.K.C. High School. It is a temporary Safety issue for our High School Students. (2.) Approved an Amendment to allow N.K.C. Hospital to issue revenue Bonds. (3.) Approved the issue of chapter 100 Bonds for 2 Hotels & a conference Center.This will allow the developer to buy construction materials w/o paying a sales tax. (4.) Approved TIF Bonds @ One North Redevelopment for a Hotel & Medical Office Building w/o any financial responsibility to the City. Such debt is issued by the Industrial Development Authority.(5.) Approved a second TIF reading on project area 5 (Hotel) & project 8 (Restaurant) @ 1 North Redevelopment Area. (6.) Approved a temporary median extension on Armour Rd. @ Buchanan. (7.) Approved a $63K budget amendment for the purchase of four new 2020 model year Police Interceptor SUV's and one Police Commercial Vehicle Van.Total Cost Budgeted @ $187,000 w/Amendment.(8.) Approved purchase of 4 wheel drive service Truck for the Water Division. Total Cost of 2019 Ford F-350 Super Cab with cab & chassis, snow plow & salt spreader is $54,613. (8.) Transferred the St. Patrick's Parking Lot ownership to the N.K.C. School District by Quitclaim deed. (9.) Approved an employment agreement with City Administrator Eric Berlin @ A base salary of $133,797 per year + car allowance of $200 per month. (10.) Approved an annual MARC Household Hazardous Waste Agreement. Participation Cost is $4,820.35 based on a City per capita rate of $1.07 per the 2017 U.S. Census estimate of 4,505. And (11.) John Sinnett,Jr. recently submitted his resignation from the Tax Increment Financing Commission and was awarded a Resolution of Appreciation for his service to the City.
