We were dispatched to the high school for a fire alarm shortly after the football game had ended. A search was done of the school and no fire or smoke was located. It was determined by our members and the school staff that the fire alarm system had malfunctioned.

Marking the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, we honor the first responders who gave their lives to save others. You often hear 343. The story only begins there. On that day, the fire service suffered a loss of 343 FDNY members along with 1 New York Fire Patrolman. Today the number has grown with over 600 additional firefighters that have since passed away from exposure-related illnesses. We also need to remember the 71 law enforcement officers, 8 additional EMS providers, and 18 military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice during the rescue efforts.

We appreciate the kind words from our partner in community safety, the North Judson Police Department. Our department operates under the motto "Courage, Community, Pride." Anytime we are called, we strive to do our best to assist our community and neighbors. We are proud to serve and thankful to be able to work with community safety professionals like NJPD, Starke County EMS, Starke County Sheriff's Office, and Starke County Dispatch.

Amongst numerous other calls for assistance in the last week, on Saturday August 1st we responded to a gas line that had been struck and ignited, nearly catching a home on fire.

The next day we were called out for an electrical fire in the wall of a home. The fire was contained, but minor damage occurred.

On Tuesday August 4th we assisted Knox-Center Township Fire Department on a commercial structure fire. Engine 16-1 went in service. Our engine company assisted with locating and extinguishing the fire in the attic space, along with salvage and overhaul. We were in service for around 2 hours. San Pierre Vol Fire Department, Inc. went on standby to help cover our area during that time.

Yesterday, August 9th, we responded to an attic fire in town. Prior to our arrival the fire was contained to a small area by a helpful neighbor from the exterior. We made entry to the attic, cleared all material involved in the fire and provided ventilation to the space.

Whenever we have a possible or confirmed structure fire, our MABAS automatic aid system is utilized and we get automatic aid from Knox FD, San Pierre FD and Starke County EMS on the initial response. The automatic aid system has been a great help around the county and country alike, as volunteer fire departments struggle to not only fill rosters but find it especially challenging during weekday calls during the daytime to provide proper manpower.
