Veterans Day was Originally Called Armistice Day. It was the day that WW 1 ended when the Germans capitulated to Allied demands. The Armistice Day holiday was officially recognized by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Then it was observed throughout the world to honor those who brought about the end of the “Great War, as World War 1 was known back then. An armistice is a formal agreement between opposing sides in a war to cease fighting. In 1954 President Eisenhower renamed it Veterans Day to honor the people who served in WW 2 and Korea. So today it is still known as Veterans Day.

Here's today's PHOTO OF THE DAY!!! How many of you remember this lost North Country attraction?? It's "FRONTIER TOWN!!" First opened in 1951, "Frontier Town" was an early Adirondack theme park located in North Hudson, NY. Over the next 47 years, the park welcomed tens of thousands of guests each summer with stagecoach rides, a steam train, canoes, and horses. A rodeo was held daily, as was an Old West shootout on the main street, known as "Prairie Junction." Even country legend Johnny Cash performed there with his wife June Carter in 1983. Sadly, Frontier Town closed its doors forever in 1998 and the theme park was abandoned. An auction for back taxes was held and everything from the trains and stagecoaches to pins, hats, and other memorabilia was sold to the public, marking the end of an era. Though much of the property has since been redeveloped into a state campground and recreation area, the remains of the park itself still sits in eerie silence. The decaying buildings and dusty, overgrown streets marking the spot where thousands of childhood memories were once made.
