Having a bad day? Time to fix that. Studies show pictures of dogs instantly boost your mood. We might have made that up, but it sounds true, so let's go with it...

Meet Kayto — a 2-year-old German Shepherd out of Czech Republic, and North Haven PD's newest four-legged recruit. He's currently training hard at the Connecticut State Police K9 Academy, with his handler, Ofc. Cassandra Soda, putting in the work right alongside him. This team is shaping up to be one you don't want to test.

Kayto's here to work first; the friends part comes after.

Hitting the streets late December. If you're up to no good, breaking the law, or looking for trouble — consider this your warning.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

***Public information / education only***
***Warning phase HAS NOT begun yet***

The Town of North Haven is officially Introducing its Speed Safety Program near two schools. A five-day traffic study documented more than 12,000 speeding events near North Haven Middle School and Ridge Road Elementary School.

NORTH HAVEN, CT. September 14, 2026 - The Town of North Haven is introducing a Speed Safety Program near North Haven Middle School on Bailey Road and Ridge Road Elementary School on Ridge Road and Hartford Turnpike. Six Speed Safety Systems will serve the two speed zones.

The program responds to North Haven’s traffic studies, which documented approximately 2,450 speeding events per day across the three studied corridors, totaling more than 12,000 during a five-day study. At those locations, 63% to 87% of vehicles exceeded the posted speed limit, and the highest recorded speed reached 66 mph.

In response, the Town is combining advance warning signs, public education, a 30-day warning period, and consistent enforcement to encourage drivers to slow down. The Speed Safety Systems will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During the warning period, qualifying events approved through the review process will result in warning notices rather than fines. After the warning period, the program is configured to identify a potential violation when a vehicle is traveling 11 mph or more above the posted speed limit. Authorized North Haven town personnel must review and approve each potential violation before a citation is issued.

These measures give drivers notice and time to adjust their behavior before citations carrying fines begin. Ongoing enforcement is intended to encourage compliance with posted speed limits. The goal is fewer speeding violations and safer conditions for everyone traveling through these school zones. The program operates under written requirements governing how program information is used, accessed, protected, retained, and destroyed. Residents can review the applicable privacy information through the Town’s program webpage.

Following the warning period, citations will carry a $50 fine for a first violation and $75 for each subsequent violation. A $15 electronic payment-processing fee may also apply. Citations are civil violations and may be contested through the process explained on the notice. Residents can learn more about the warning period, program locations, payments, hearings, and privacy requirements at https://www.northhaven-ct.gov/online_services/north_haven_atesd__program.php

Citations carrying fines are anticipated to begin in December 2026

***Found Property***

During a recent street takeover, one rider left their motorcycle behind while making their escape. We now have it in our possession.

If this incredibly mediocre-condition bike is yours, feel free to come see us. We'd like to have a chat about it.
