🚒 Firefighter Survival Training

When visibility drops to zero, training takes over.

Our firefighters practiced survival skills and the removal of a downed firefighter while blindfolded to simulate the intense conditions they may face inside a structure fire. The team focused on communication, coordination, and getting their fellow firefighter to safety.

Every Tuesday, we’ll provide clear, factual information to help you better understand the proposed property tax changes and what they could mean for emergency services in our community.

WHERE DOES OUR FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDING COME FROM? 🚒
As a Special Taxing District, about 95% of our funding comes from ad valorem taxes.
But what does “ad valorem” mean?
Simply put, ad valorem means “based on value.”
For our Fire District, this means property owners within our district pay a portion based off of their property’s taxable value to help fund fire rescue services.

🔹 Tax Facts Tuesday
Every Tuesday, we’ll provide clear, factual information to help you better understand the proposed property tax changes and what they could mean for emergency services.

📢 COMMUNITY UPDATE: AMENDMENT 3

Amendment 3’s original ballot language was court-ordered to be rewritten. We want our community to see the revised language.

REVISED BALLOT TITLE:
“INCREASED HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION; LOWER CAP ON INCREASES IN NON-HOMESTEAD PROPERTY ASSESSMENTS.”
BALLOT SUMMARY: This amendment increases the homestead exemption, for all non-school taxes, to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, and adjusts for inflation thereafter. It requires the Legislature to prescribe a uniform procedure for counties and municipalities, for their respective levies, to increase the homestead exemption up to full assessed value, and allows special districts, subject to referendum approval, to do the same. Persons who are not Florida residents on December 31, 2026, will receive the existing homestead exemption upon qualifying for a homestead exemption, with the increased homestead exemption beginning with the fifth year of exemption, to the extent permitted by the U.S. Constitution. This amendment reduces the annual cap on assessment increases for non-homestead properties from 10% to 5%. This amendment requires counties and municipalities to use property taxes solely for public safety, education and schools, infrastructure, natural resources, bond debt service, retirement benefits for employees, and operations and administration. Other expenditures may be approved by county officers or county or municipal governing bodies unless prohibited by general law, notwithstanding Article VII, Section 9(a) of the Florida Constitution, which allows counties and municipalities to levy property taxes for their respective purposes. This amendment takes effect January 1, 2027.

🚁 Training Today = Better Care Tomorrow!

We spent multiple days training with Lee Flight, focusing on landing zone operations and safety, including safely loading patients into the helicopter. We also completed classroom training on pediatric trauma.

We truly appreciate Leeflight taking the time to train with us. Every hour of training helps us be better prepared to serve and protect our community. ❤️‍🔥🚒

The property tax amendment leaves nearly half of Florida’s counties unable to fund basic services on their own.
When that many communities can’t cover the gap, they go to Tallahassee, where state lawmakers decide what your community gets for public safety.

Our students are heading back to school, please slow down and stay alert 💛

📵 No texting and driving, it’s against the law and saves lives
🚌 Watch for school buses and always respect stop signs
🌅 Be extra careful at bus stops, especially in low light

These kids are the heart of our community, on their way to learn and grow 📚
