Dear Friends of Easton Public Gardens,
I moved to the town of Easton in 1999. I fell in love with the history, the architecture, the landscape and the neighborhoods. My affection was fueled by amazing individuals and organizations and the Friends of Easton Public Gardens was organized in 2009 to educate, inspire and protect the natural resources of our community and its landscape. Many incredible accomplishments were achieved as we worked in tandem with Easton Garden Club, Easton Historical Commission, Easton Historical Society, Easton Grange, Natural Resources Trust, Ames Free Library and more on civic education and improvements. I am so very proud to have worked with so many incredible people on a multitude of projects. Large scale ventures like the ongoing restoration of Queset Garden at the Ames Free Library and smaller restorative efforts like the repair of the balustrade at the remains of the Sunken Rose Garden at Wayside Estate (Town Offices). Care and maintenance of the Rockery Memorial Cairn and the Short Street Cemetery along with countless weeding parties and civic cleanups. Easton has a legacy of extraordinary individuals and organizations that continue to champion the protection, preservation and beautification of the local landscape. They will continue to work their magic even as this public notice announces the dissolution of FEPG. I encourage everyone to continue to discover their local treasures while respectfully maintaining and improving their regional "backyard". While the administrative initiatives of FEPG are diminishing, the enthusiasm and contributions of the Friends live on in the Ecological Field Guide to Fun - Go Wild. Stay tuned for further details on the future home of this playful biography of the topography and history of the Town of Easton. Offering 4 seasons of outdoor exploration and entertainment and featuring the unique contributions of North and South Easton this book remains available at local retailers including Paperback Junction and the Children's Museum in Easton. Thank you for supporting, thank you for contributing and thank you for being a friend of Easton's public gardens. - Karen Rich-Cacciapuoti
