The UMass Dartmouth Police Department is saddened to share news of the passing of Brian Medeiros, owner of Dartmouth Orchards.

Brian had a generous spirit and a genuine love for this community. He never forgot us, regularly stopping by with fresh apples, apple cider, and pies that brightened our days more than he knew.

Dartmouth has lost a true treasure. We are grateful for his kindness and will carry fond memories of him always. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

Rest in peace, Brian.

This Memorial Day is a reminder that this is more than just a long weekend. It’s a time to remember and honor the brave women and men who came before us and gave their lives in service to our country and our freedom.

They made the ultimate sacrifice—not because they had to, but because they chose to serve something greater than themselves.

Today, we remember them with gratitude and respect.

Update: We regret to inform you that the Officer in Charge Training Course, hosted by the UMass Dartmouth Police Department in partnership with the Municipal Police Institute, has been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience and will share updates on future training opportunities. Thank you for your understanding.

The UMass Dartmouth Police Department, in partnership with the Municipal Police Institute, is proud to host the Officer in Charge Training Course.

The First Line Supervisor is one of the most important positions in any police department. In many agencies, the senior officer on shift serves as the “Officer in Charge” (OIC), providing supervisory oversight, directing personnel, and serving as a critical communication link between command staff and patrol officers.

Through lecture, demonstration, and class interaction, this course is designed to help OICs develop in their roles and responsibilities as shift supervisors.

We invite our neighboring law enforcement agencies to register a member of their department to attend this valuable training opportunity.

College Now: Inspiring Stories, Transforming Futures

Jared Louf Woods, University Police Officer and College Now alumnus, our alumni speaker; Sam Riley, senior College Now speaker; Larissa Bernadeau and Jada Johnson Scott, first-year speakers. Each story reflected a powerful common theme- the importance of support, belonging, and discovering purpose.

The program also recognized Linda Keith, retired College Now Program Coordinator, with an Award of Appreciation for her years of dedication and impact on students.

Their journeys remind us that when opportunity meets motivation and hard work, extraordinary things happen.

What a proud moment to have celebrated these extraordinary people. Looking forward to seeing your continued impact.
