Our team enjoyed a recent Employee Field Day as a way to connect, recharge, and recognize the important work being done every day across the District.

These moments of appreciation help strengthen teamwork, communication, and morale so we can continue delivering safe, reliable sewer services to our community.

Thank you to our employees for your dedication to protecting public health and supporting our region’s critical infrastructure.

“Flushable” wipes continue to be a costly and preventable challenge for wastewater systems.

Despite the label, these products do not break down like toilet paper. Instead, they maintain their strength, catch on pipe joints, and combine with fats, oils, and grease to form severe blockages, impacting infrastructure, increasing maintenance demands, and driving up operational costs.

Even when they pass through household plumbing, they can still damage pumps, lift stations, and downstream systems.

A simple message with a big impact:
🚽 Only flush toilet paper
🗑️ Dispose of wipes in the trash

Small actions at home help protect critical public infrastructure.

Meet Jerome!

Jerome plays a vital role in keeping our system running smoothly. He oversees pipeline maintenance, ensuring everything stays clean, functional, and defect-free. His crews are out in the field every day clearing dirt, grease, and debris, inspecting pipes for potential issues, and replacing damaged sections when needed.

In addition, Jerome manages our customer service crew, making sure service calls are handled quickly and that our customers receive the support they need when it matters most.

Thank you, Jerome, for your dedication and leadership!

Please join us in congratulating Xavier Butler on his promotion to Mechanical Technician in the Pumps Department!

Xavier began his journey with the District in 2024 as a Construction Operator in the Capital Projects Department. He later transitioned to the Lines Department as a Collection System Operator this past February.

We’re proud to see his hard work and dedication pay off. Congratulations, Xavier—well deserved!

🚫 Don’t Let F.O.G. Clog the System!

F.O.G. stands for Fats, Oils, and Grease, and while they may seem harmless when poured down the drain, they can cause major problems in our sewer system.

When F.O.G. cools, it hardens and sticks to the inside of pipes. Over time, this buildup can lead to:
❌ Sewer backups in homes and businesses
❌ Costly repairs
❌ Environmental issues from overflows

What can you do to help?
✔️ Pour cooled grease into a container and throw it in the trash
✔️ Wipe greasy pans with a paper towel before washing
✔️ Avoid rinsing food scraps down the sink

Small actions make a big difference in keeping our sewer system flowing smoothly and protecting our community!

Huge shoutout to Jason Wilson and Brian Seymour!

They took on a long-standing WWTP issue and delivered a smart, permanent solution—installing pump wells, submersible chopper pumps, and controls to replace unreliable portable pumps. They handled everything from planning to installation and even added a spray bar to improve the setup.

Their initiative and innovation have made a big impact on efficiency and site conditions. Thanks for the great work!

This morning, employees from the North Charleston Sewer District spent time touring the Felix C. Davis Wastewater Treatment Plant to get a closer look at how our system works from start to finish.

From our collection system to the treatment process, it takes a dedicated team and a lot of behind-the-scenes effort to make sure our community’s wastewater is handled safely and responsibly. Seeing it all in action gave our team an even greater appreciation for the work that goes into protecting public health and our environment every single day.

We’re grateful for the chance to learn more about the process and proud of the role we play in serving our community!
