What a fabulous week we have had at the CSU Criminal Justice Camp, proudly sponsored by the Charleston Southern University Criminal Justice Department!

Today marks the conclusion of an educational, exciting, and up-close learning experience for these outstanding young people. Throughout the week, campers had the opportunity to interact with professionals from a variety of law enforcement and public safety agencies, gaining valuable insight into careers dedicated to serving and protecting our communities.

This camp would not have been possible without the support of the many law enforcement and public safety agencies that generously volunteered their time, expertise, and resources. Thank you for investing in the next generation.

A special thank you goes to those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this camp such a tremendous success: Professor Alan Fix, Ms. Jan Reed, Mackenzie Godfrey, Ella Harrison, Joelle Thorsell, Layla Brown, Daniel Kuykendall, Janet Smith, and Dr. Matt Gilbert.

Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to our students helped create an unforgettable experience. We are grateful for each of you and look forward to another great camp next year!

Our campers had the opportunity to learn from the Mount Pleasant Drone Team, the North Charleston Police Department SWAT Unit, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Summerville Police Department Crime Scene Unit.

The campers were filled with questions, enthusiasm, and excitement as they interacted with these specialized units and gained firsthand knowledge about their unique roles in law enforcement. From drone operations and tactical response teams to drug enforcement investigations and crime scene processing, it was an incredible educational experience for everyone involved.

A special thank you to all of our presenters for taking the time to invest in the next generation and helping make this year’s camp such a success. What an amazing week of learning, discovery, and inspiration! Looking forward to Friday.

The CSU Criminal Justice Summer Camp kicked off today with our largest group of campers ever nearly 60 students between the ages of 14 and 18! It is an exciting time for everyone involved.

Professor Allen Fix has led this camp for many years and, as always, has assembled an outstanding team that helps make this program such a success.

We started the day with the Charleston Police Department, followed by an afternoon session with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, and concluded the day with representatives from the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives.

What an exciting first day! Our campers had the opportunity to learn from dedicated law enforcement and public safety professionals while gaining firsthand insight into careers in criminal justice. We look forward to seeing what tomorrow will bring and are grateful to all of the agencies and individuals who continue to make this experience possible.

President Ronald Reagan stated (1987), Today, Memorial Day, we remember. We thank God for the courage, sacrifice, and love of those who gave their lives so that we might live ours. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

May we never forget their sacrifice 🇺🇸

During National Police Week we remember the sacrifice behind the badge. Law enforcement officers miss holidays, family time, and special moments while serving and protecting others. Some made the ultimate sacrifice so we could live safely.

As President John F. Kennedy once said, “Anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm.” Today we honor those who continue to stand strong during life’s storms. Pray for the families who have lost a loved one. Thank you to all who serve and protect. 🇺🇸💙
