Today, we honor and celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures who give so much of themselves to their families and our community.
Mother’s Day is a time of joy for many, but we also recognize that it can be a difficult day for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. To all who may be carrying both love and sorrow today, please know that you are in our thoughts.
From all of us at the Charleston County Coroner’s Office, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the mothers who nurture, guide, and strengthen our community each and every day.
Wishing everyone a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Mother’s Day.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Angela Biela on being named Nurse of the Year by the Medical University of South Carolina!

Angela previously served as a Deputy Coroner with our office and continues to make a tremendous impact in our community as a pediatric emergency nurse. We are also proud to have her working alongside our office through the CDC Cooperative Agreement as an SDY Research Coordinator, where she plays an important role in advancing education, research, and prevention efforts related to sudden death in the young.

In addition to this well-deserved recognition, Angela recently secured support and funding for additional bassinets in the pediatric emergency department. These bassinets will help influence and champion safe sleep practices for new parents and visitors to the emergency department, while also providing a safe resting space for patients who may experience extended wait times.

Angela’s dedication, compassion, and commitment to improving pediatric care and community health continue to make a lasting difference. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and grateful for her continued partnership with our office and commitment to the community. Congratulations, Angela, on this outstanding honor!

Today, on Donor Remembrance Day, we pause to honor the extraordinary individuals who gave the gift of life through donation.

We remember and celebrate every donor whose generosity has brought hope, healing, and second chances to families across South Carolina and beyond. Their legacy lives on in the lives they’ve touched, and their impact will never be forgotten.

We stand in support of Sharing Hope SC and the lifesaving mission of organ, eye, and tissue donation. To the donor families who carry both grief and pride, we see you, and we honor your loved one’s courage and compassion.

Thank you to all who choose to give life, and to all who continue to share hope.
