'A group of residents representing at least half of the community at the time of the property sale formed a tenant union, with support from SC Tenant Union , to call for more time and additional financial incentives.

The Ferndale Mobile Home Tenant Union said the agreement gives residents an opportunity to relocate with dignity instead of urgency."

After weeks of organizing, residents at Ferndale Mobile Home Park in North Charleston have reached an agreement with the property’s new owner, New Tide LLC, that provides more time and added relocation support as families prepare to leave the community.

After weeks of organizing, the Ferndale Mobile Home Tenant Union has reached an agreement with New Tide LLC by negotiating directly with its president, Antonio Ribeiro. The agreement will provide additional relocation support and more time for union families to move.

As part of the agreement, New Tide LLC will transfer $70,000 in relocation assistance to a nonprofit third party for disbursement to members of the Ferndale Mobile Home Tenant Union, representing a majority of Ferndale households, including both renters and homeowners. Union families will also now have until July 22 to relocate from the property.

This agreement comes after residents organized together to demand dignity and meaningful support during displacement. Ferndale Mobile Home Tenant Union members appreciate Antonio Ribeiro and New Tide, LLC taking steps to respond to residents’ concerns and work toward a resolution that provides families with greater stability during this transition.

This outcome shows what can happen when working-class people come together, raise their voices, and are met with a willingness to negotiate in good faith.

While relocation will still be difficult for many families during North Charleston’s affordable housing crisis, Antonio Ribeiro and New Tide, LLC's willingness to work with the Ferndale residents gives them a chance to relocate from a place of power and dignity rather than desperation.

First he lied to the media.

Then he refused to meet with Ferndale Mobile Home Tenant Union members.

Then he tried to divide the renters from the mobile home owners.

These are all typical landlord tactics. But every time the tenants have moved, he has responded to their power.

So when elected tenant leaders showed up at his office on Friday demanding a meeting, he sat down to negotiate. And when he refused to make a serious offer, tenants leaders walked away because they know what's fair and what's not.

On Tuesday, residents of Ferndale Mobile Home Park launched the Ferndale Mobile Home Tenant Union, representing more than 50% of the occupied lots at the time of the property's sale and nearly 100% of the remaining residents.

They have issued a set of demands to the developer who bought the land out from underneath them and who has publicly threatened them with evictions if they don't leave by May 31st.

Today residents of Ferndale Mobile Home Park announced the launch of the Ferndale Mobile Home Tenant Union, representing more than 50% of the occupied lots at the time of the property's sale and nearly 100% of the remaining residents.

The tenant union is demanding that the new developer who purchased it give them more time to vacate, relocation assistance, and a halt to eviction filings.

Tenants received notice on 3/25/26 that the property had been sold and that residents would need to vacate their homes by 5/31/26. Many residents have lived in the park for decades and cannot afford the high costs of moving manufactured homes, securing new housing, and relocating families, elders, and disabled residents.

“I work full time and have been doing everything I can to keep us afloat while my partner recovers from a recent surgery. Right now, we do not have the money it takes to move our home. And the reality is this: if we cannot move it, our home will likely be demolished,” said Ferndale Mobile Home Tenant Union member Cherolina Snyder.

"We are demanding more time and real relocation support because tenants and homeowners like me should not lose everything simply because a property was sold,” said union member Bruce Ford, an employee at North Charleston Elementary School.
