How was your week? Mine? Awesome!

After a great Council meeting on Monday night, Tuesday morning greeted The City of North Canton with crystal clear blue skies and summertime temperatures. Perfect for the long- awaited groundbreaking of our new consolidated Fire and EMS station.

The groundbreaking was due to the tireless work of so many that consumed decades for some (Bill Knepp…I see you!). I was honored to play a part in the journey for the past few years.

And last night, the North Canton Hoover baseball team won a regional title to advance to the state semifinals for just the 3rd time in school history. I was very happy to see the win in person, made sweeter because I know so many of the players and their families through our time together with North Canton Little League.

Next week has a lot to live up to! Here’s to a wonderful and safe weekend, North Canton!

After a few years of declining population, North Canton has now added residents in two straight years.

Stark County grew from 2024 to 2025, and most townships and cities grew with it, according to U.S. census estimates. Most villages saw slight dips. See link below ⬇️

Kudos to NCCS Athletics! I know that the free tickets are probably gone but I wanted to shine a very bright spotlight on this.

Baseball and softball playoffs come at a time when school is out so students are less connected to each other. And, after regular season tickets being free, OHSAA charges for admission for Postseason.

So this is a big deal. I appreciate athletic Director Larry Kinnard and any other NCCS Administration officials involved in this great move!

GO VIKES! I’ll see you in Oberlin tonight!

UPDATE: We still have tickets! Mr. Kinnard will be at the game gate with tickets for any students who attend. Let's go, Vikings!

Free Student Tickets! 📢
We want YOU to cheer our Vikings in the OHSSA DII Region 6 Baseball FINAL! ⚾️ And NCCS Athletics will buy your ticket!

The first 50 Hoover students to visit the Athletic Department Office by Door 1 on Thursday, June 4 between 10am - 1pm will get a free ticket to the Regional Final game at Oberlin College! One ticket per student, while supplies last. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.

We want you! Cheer our Vikings to a Division title! 🧡🖤

It was a great day in North Canton as this morning we officially broke ground on a consolidated Fire and EMS station!

The station will be located at the corner of N.Main and Viking and will replace BOTH Station 1 and Station 2, ultimately saving North Canton taxpayers money.

This day has been a long time coming. Neither of the current stations were designed with a modern fire force in mind - both were intended for a males only, volunteer squad. As such, both needed to be adapted as best as possible for appropriate overnight quarters. Both also lacked modern decontamination stations. Past and present firefighters knew the need was great.

On a personal note, my entry into civic service is rooted in the quest to responsibly fund a new fire station. I am grateful that then City Council President and now Mayor Matt Stroia asked me to join the first committee. I was honored to meet and collaborate with former NC Assistant Fire Chief Bill Knepp. Bill put in years of dedication and service to the city, both as an active firefighter and then retirement with his commitment to a new station. I was also glad to join several other Council and Administration members on these committees as well as today’s groundbreaking.

And I am honored to serve these heroes by helping make their new work home a reality.

North Canton’s July 4th/America250 celebration is now just a little over a month away but if you’re a local vendor there’s still time to join in!

With the city planning a “family picnic” on the Hoover lawn and a drone show, our city center will be packed so this represents a great opportunity!

LAST CALL FOR VENDORS!

The City of North Canton’s America250 Fourth of July Celebration is almost here, and we’re looking for our final group of vendors to join us for this exciting community event!

This is a great opportunity to showcase your business, products, food, or organization in front of thousands of attendees as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary together.

THANK YOU to the North Canton Police Department for providing detailed traffic safety statistics. Not only does this help NCPD allocate resources, this information can absolutely help citizens be more aware of high traffic and accident areas.

Introducing Drive Safe North Canton

The North Canton Police Department is excited to launch our new Speed Management & Enforcement page on our website as part of our Drive Safe North Canton initiative.

This new page provides real-world data and resources to help residents better understand how and why we focus on speed management throughout our city.

📊 What you’ll find on the page:
• Speed statistics from over a dozen North Canton streets
• 85th Percentile Speed – the speed at or below which 85% of drivers are traveling
• Average Speed – the overall average of all vehicles measured
• Percent of Excessive Speeders – drivers traveling 11+ mph over the posted limit

By sharing this information, we hope to give our community a clearer picture of driving behavior in North Canton and the work we’re doing to keep our roads safe.

THANK YOU to North Canton’s public works employees; they perform difficult and dirty work in often very challenging conditions.

So helping our City Administrator Catherine Farina-Molnar and other Council members make breakfast for these fine folks was just a small token of appreciation!

Great to share the griddle with Jamie McCleaster, North Canton City Council Ward 1 and Holly Pierpont, North Canton City Council-at-Large as well as At-Large Member Andrew Pratt!
