It’s firefly season!

One of the most fascinating spectacles of Minnesota summer nights is the glimmering show of fireflies or lightening bugs.

If you aren’t seeing fireflies in your own yard, it’s most likely because there is a lack of suitable habitat. Fireflies need areas of longer vegetation where leaves are left to decompose naturally because the larvae and eggs develop in the leaf litter. The adults hide in native vegetation during the day and light up as they search for mates at night. Typical mown lawn grass is not tall enough for fireflies to utilize.

If you’d like to attract fireflies, you can dedicate small, unused portions of your yard to firefly habitat where the leaves are left as litter, no mowing takes place, and native plants are allowed to grow above a few inches tall.

When: Saturday, May 2, 2026, 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.,

NOTE – there is NO PARKING on HWY 95. Gates will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday (not before).

Bring the large number that was sent to you and show it to use as you get close to the building. We will load them into your car, no need to get out!

From North Branch: Follow MN-95 (St. Croix Trail) East for 13 miles, site will be on your left.

From Taylors Falls: Follow MN-95 (St. Croix Trail) West for 7 miles, site will be on your right.

Remember to use the WEST gate to enter and follow the main drive path indicated to ensure the traffic flows smoothly in one direction.
