Last year we were given a 12 x 16 post frame grainery from about a mile down the road. We put it in the back of the property and we’re gonna fix it up into a primitive little cabin as part of our education series on Pioneer life.

We found the signature on the wall inside the door of Charles M Rooks, July 3, 1925.

So it looks like this building is 101 years old in a couple months.

Hopefully by the official birthday of July 3, we will have it sided with the new windows in and we can have a slice of birthday cake with 101 candles.

Obviously, we’re going to save these two pieces of siding, preserve them, and make them into a wall hanging to be inside the old grainery.

In honor of America’s 250th, we’re exploring the opportunity to bring in a skilled artisan to demonstrate original colonial-era molds used for casting pewter spoons.

Participants would not only watch the process—but take part in it. Each person would select their own cast spoon, then learn how to transform a rough casting into a finished, usable utensil. Along the way, you’ll learn the history behind the pattern and the time period in which it was originally used.

Each participant would also receive a small take-home toolkit to complete the final polishing.

Due to material costs and the included toolkit, the program would be priced in the $50–$65 range per person and limited to just 10 participants. While this is higher than our typical programs, this is a rare, hands-on experience that you simply won’t find elsewhere in Ohio or Pennsylvania.

Before we move forward with planning—would there be 10 people interested in taking part in this unique opportunity?
