We’re sharing a look at our recent call activity and the types of emergencies our team has responded to.

In this reporting period, North Berwick Rescue responded to 48 calls:

🔹 42 – Emergency Responses in our Primary Response Area (87.5%)
🔹 5 – Mutual Aid Responses (10.42%)
🔹 1 – Support Service Response (2.08%)

Top Dispatch Reasons
Our calls covered a wide range of medical and emergency situations, including:

• 8 – Sick Person
• 5 – Traffic/Transportation Incidents
• 5 – Breathing Problems
• 4 – Psychiatric Problems/Abnormal Behavior/Suicide Attempt
• 3 – Lift Assists
• 2 each – Abdominal Pain, Choking, Seizures, Hemorrhage/Laceration, Pregnancy/Childbirth/Miscarriage, Unconsciousness/Fainting, and Medical Alarms
• Additional calls included chest pain, falls, overdose/poisoning, stroke, assault, back pain, fire, and more.

Every call represents someone in our community who needed help.

July 2026 Call Stats - 47 Runs - Since January 1 - 302 Runs

What this does not include is our incredible Mutual Aid Partners which have also answered calls in town while we were already on one of these runs. Simultaneous calls happen and when we are already committed on a call we need the great and professional help of our mutual aid partners in Wells, Sanford and South Berwick, which we also reciprocate when needed and available.

🌡️ High Heat Advisory – Cooling Center Information 🌡️

Due to the expected high temperatures, the D.A. Hurd Library (41 High Street, North Berwick) will be open as a Cooling Center for anyone who needs a place to escape the heat.

🗓️ Cooling Center Hours:
Wednesday, July 1: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Thursday, July 2: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Please check on family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be vulnerable to the heat. Stay hydrated, avoid prolonged time outdoors during the hottest part of the day, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.

If you or someone you know needs a cool place to stay during the heat advisory, the D.A. Hurd Library is available during the hours listed above.

Congratulations to North Berwick Rescue members Jake Demakis, Glen Cefalo, and Matt Magill on being presented with the Maine EMS Phoenix Award for their outstanding actions during a call last June.

These members successfully resuscitated a patient who experienced an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, demonstrating exceptional teamwork, professionalism, and dedication to patient care.

We are proud of their commitment to serving our community and honored to recognize their lifesaving efforts. Congratulations, Jake, Glen, and Matt!

Today, crews put the finishing touches on our new Ambulance 1, which is now in service! A1 is a 2025 Lifeline built on a Ford F-550 4x4 chassis, replacing a 2008 Chevy 4500 that has now been retired from our fleet. Also pictured is the nearly identical 2018 Ambulance 2, also built on a Ford F-550 4x4 chassis.
This major upgrade will help ensure continued exceptional care and service to the citizens of North Berwick for years to come. Thank you to Specialty Vehicles, Inc. for providing all three of these quality trucks!
