Yesterday some of our members visited Noble High School to talk to students who were interested in learning more about firefighting. Captain Toby Bowden and Lieutenant Scott Beaudet led a discussion about the various tasks firefighters perform and showed some of the various equipment we use. Firefighter Laura Adams, also an instructor for a local Fire Academy, spoke about certifications, and the various ways to obtain them through the Vocational program or local Fire Academies. Junior Firefighter Mia Millet spoke about our Junior Firefighter program at NBFD, her experiences, and developmental opportunities she has had while on our department. Following the discussions the students were brought out to Engine-3 to see more of our tools, gear, and further explain how they are used.
Also discussed was an exciting new partnership between Noble High School and NBFD! Firefighter Laura Adams has teamed up with the Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) program at Noble High School to develop a new program designed to provide hands on learning, CPR and First Aid certifications, and potential community service hours for those interested in learning more about a career in the fire service. This exciting new program will take place both at Noble and at NBFD after the start of the new year!
