Little Theatre on the Bay

LTOB is a not-for-profit community theatre that produces a variety of theatrical performances. We discover and develop local talent while providing enrichment and entertainment to our local community and beyond. We are the 2nd longest running community theatre in Oregon, operating out of the beautiful and historic Liberty Theatre in North Bend. We are currently renovating our lovely building to its former glory; updating and expanding facilities while keeping the historical integrity of the theatre. We are run by a board of directors and an all-volunteer staff and we put on anywhere from 10 to 20 separate events per year; rarely a weekend goes by without an offering from Little Theatre on the Bay. Live music, dramatic and comedic plays, stage musicals, and variety shows all make up our various offerings.

This Friday is opening night for “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time!” This Tony Award winning play was the longest-running Broadway play of its decade, and is a truly unique mystery.

15-year-old Christopher Boone (portrayed by Carter Richards) is standing over Mrs. Shears’ (Victoria Crumpacker, shown here) beloved dog, who’s been speared with a garden fork. But Christopher is no dog-murderer, and when he decides to investigate who actually killed the dog, he discovers family secrets that turn his world upside-down.

The twist? Christopher is likely autistic - and audiences get to see this mystery through his eyes.

Johnny Crawford plays the policeman (and others) in our soon-to-open production of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” You may recognize him from his portrayal of the iconic detective’s nemesis, Moriarty, in LTOB’s comedy “Moriarty,” or as the villain Franklin Basher in the most recent Sawdust Theater production. Johnny says he’s thrilled to be performing again at the Liberty Theater.

We'll be having a free, autism-friendly showing of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" this Sunday, September 20th at 2pm. We will have a table with fidget tools provided by Pathways to Positive Parenting. However, you may also bring your own fidgets from home. Pictured below are some of the types of fidgets that are allowed in the theatre. You may bring fidgets like:

-Noise cancelling headphones or earplugs
-Fidget spinners, tangles, or other small fidgets
-Stress balls or stress squishies
-Small stuffed animals
-Weighted blankets or vests (not pictured)

Please do NOT bring fidgets that:
-May make a mess, like slime, Floam, or putty
-Make loud or repetitive noises
-Have bright lights

Please do not use electronic devices like phones or iPads during the performance. This does not apply to AAC devices or other assistive technology. If you need to use your device to regulate, please go to the quiet area. You may use your devices during the intermission between the first and second act of the show.

We’re excited to partner with Pathways to Positive Parenting for an autism-friendly performance of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” – a special, free showing on September 20th, designed to make live theatre more comfortable for those who need reduced sensory input. We realize that many people with sensory sensitivities may not have been to The Liberty Theatre before. This post will help familiarize you with our theatre ahead of time.

1. This is the box office and the front door. The box office is where you can purchase tickets for any of our productions.

2. This is the concession stand. Here, you may purchase drinks, candy, and popcorn. You may also purchase Liberty Theatre merchandise.

3. This is the bar. If you are over 21, you may purchase a glass of beer, wine, or cider. Please have a valid ID to show the bartender, or we cannot serve you alcohol.

4. This is the auditorium. This is where the performance will happen!

5. These are the bathrooms. We have a men’s room, a women’s room, and a gender neutral/handicap accessible room (not pictured).

6. These are the quiet areas and the area where the Pathways to Positive Parenting table will be located. The volunteers from Pathways to Positive Parenting will have fidget tools and will be able to provide extra support to those who may need it.

7. This is inside the quiet area. If you need to take a break during the show, you may come to this room to relax. The room has a television with audio so you will not miss the show. When you are ready, you may return to the auditorium.

Tim Waits plays Reverend Peters (and others) in our upcoming production of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” He’s worked with special needs children and adults since 1967, off and on in various venues. He plays guitar and harmonica and enjoys singing.

This Friday is opening night for “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time!” This is a truly unique whodunit, and was the longest-running Broadway play in its decade, winning the Tony Award, as well as other notable awards.

Karlee Cottrell plays “No. 40” (and others) in our upcoming production of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” Karlee enjoys spending time with her dog, traveling, hiking, and yoga. She says she began her theatre adventure at The Dolphin Playhouse in May and is excited to now be on The Liberty stage.

Jason Goodson plays Mr. Shears (and others) in our soon-to-open production of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” He’s a familiar face at The Liberty, having volunteered in a variety of areas for us since 2013. He’s been our bar tender, our lobby manager, on stage crews, on lighting crews…and yes, even on stage in multiple productions. Jason says, “I feel that the theatre should be a vital part of everyone’s life.”

Margaret Partner plays Mrs. Alexander (and others) in our upcoming production of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” She’s a retired first grade teacher and has served on the board and performed in productions at the Dolphin Playhouse. She volunteers with South Coast Hospice and at the Coos Art Museum. This is her first time on stage at The Liberty Theatre.
