🎶 Celebrating a historic North Bend achievement!

At Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, Mayor Jessica Engelke and the North Bend City Council had the honor of recognizing North Bend High School student Alexander Peck for an extraordinary accomplishment in music.

Alexander has made history as the first-ever solo band state champion in North Bend history, representing North Bend High School and our community with exceptional talent, dedication, and discipline at the highest level of statewide competition.

Alexander and his family joined us in the Council Chambers as he received a City proclamation, and those in attendance were treated to a brief performance from the musical piece that helped earn him this remarkable honor.

Achievements like this remind us of the powerful role music education plays in helping students grow, create, lead, and excel. They also reflect the support of dedicated teachers, family members, classmates, and a community that believes in celebrating student success.

Congratulations, Alexander Peck. North Bend is proud of you! 🎼🏆

🔥 Fire Safety Training in Action Today! 🔥

Today, North Bend City’s Safety Committee hosted North Bend Fire & Rescue for an important fire safety training focused specifically on fire extinguishers.

The training began with a brief introduction to fire extinguisher safety, followed by a 20-minute fire safety video. Afterward, representatives from each City department headed over to the North Bend Fire Department for hands-on extinguisher training.

Participants learned how to identify different types of fire extinguishers and when to use them:

🔥 Class A: Ordinary combustibles such as wood, paper, cloth, and plastics
🔥 Class B: Flammable liquids such as gasoline, oil, grease, and solvents
🔥 Class C: Energized electrical equipment, including appliances, wiring, and electrical panels
🔥 Class K: Cooking oils and fats, commonly found in commercial kitchens

We also reviewed how often extinguishers should be checked, what to look for during a visual inspection, and the inspection requirements that apply to commercial businesses.

A few key fire safety reminders:

✅ Call 911 immediately in the event of a fire
✅ Evacuate first and make sure others are safe
✅ Only use a fire extinguisher if the fire is small, contained, and you have a clear exit behind you
✅ Remember PASS: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep side to side
✅ Never put yourself at risk — when in doubt, get out

Fire extinguishers can save lives and protect property, but only when they are properly maintained and used safely. Today’s training gave City staff practical knowledge they can use at work, at home, and in the community.

North Bend Fire & Rescue also offers fire safety and fire extinguisher training for North Bend residents and businesses.

To request training, contact the North Bend Fire Department at:

Thank you to North Bend Fire & Rescue for helping keep our City team and community prepared.
