Update of former inductees-
Mike Venezia (Class of 2008) Artist/Illustrator — Glenn Ellyn, IL
In 2019 Mike Venezia was asked
to create the children’s area for the unprecedented Frida Kahlo Summer 2020 exhibition! The once in a lifetime exhibit which will be shown at the new Cleve Carney Museum of Art in the MAC Arts Center at the College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn and will run June - August 2020. This show will be the largest exhibition of Frida Kahlo’s art in Chicago in 40 years.
The exhibit will include 26 original works by Kahlo on loan from the Dolores Olmedo Museum in Mexico City. The MAC and College of DuPage even
built a new state of the art addition to accommodate the show. Mike Venezia’s part is in helping to make the experience an all-family event.
Mike created a huge 6’x18’ Frida Kahlo mural that local kids helped paint. Local libraries and community centers are hosting the mural until the exhibit starts in June, where it will be on display.
In addition, to the mural, Mike created a fun “photo op” life size cutout of Frida and her husband, Diego Rivera, a coloring book, a try your own-self portrait book, and a number of illustrations that will
be printed up to poster size and placed around the children’s area.
In addition to this Mike will be presenting at a few art forums during the exhibit.
