What does it take to keep North Attleborough’s roads moving in the right direction?

Maintaining and improving our roads is expensive — and the state funding North Attleborough receives through Chapter 90 now paves roughly half the distance it did about 10 years ago.

In this highlight from the September Town Manager’s Report, Town Manager Michael Borg explains how the Town works to fill that gap. Along with Chapter 90 funding, North Attleborough has invested additional local resources in road projects through borrowing and, at times, free cash — another example of how the Town can strategically put those funds to work.

At the same time, our Department of Public Works is working to make those investments last. From paving and major roadway improvements to crack sealing and preventative maintenance, the goal is to extend the life of our roads for as long as possible while continuing to plan ahead for the next paving season.

ROADWORK NOTICE: MANSFIELD ROAD / WEST STREET

North Attleborough residents traveling in the area of Mansfield Road near Peter Way should be aware of an upcoming roadwork project beginning just over the town line in Mansfield.

The Town of Mansfield will begin milling and paving work on West Street, from Grove Street to the North Attleborough town line, on or about Thursday, Sept. 17. The project will be completed in several phases, with final paving tentatively scheduled for Oct. 8–10.

Local traffic will be allowed through the work area, but heavy delays are expected. Motorists traveling through the Mansfield Road/West Street area should plan accordingly and allow extra travel time.

The construction schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change.

RESIDENT NOTICE: HYDRANT FLUSHING BEGINS SEPT. 14

The North Attleborough Public Works Water Division will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing program Monday, Sept. 14. Flushing will take place Monday through Thursday, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for approximately eight weeks, weather permitting.

Crews will begin in the Kelley Boulevard area, from Kenneth Kosta Drive to the Plainville line (Route 152), and the Cliffs area, before progressing to other areas of town.

Hydrant flushing is an important part of maintaining water quality throughout the Town’s water system. Residents in and around areas being flushed may temporarily experience water discoloration or fluctuations in water pressure.

If you notice discoloration:
• Avoid doing laundry until the water clears.
• Run cold water in your bathtub until it runs clear. This may take several minutes.
• If the discoloration does not clear, contact the Water Division.

We appreciate residents’ patience while this important maintenance work is completed.

Don't forget to join us at this week's public meetings! To learn more about the dates, times, locations and agendas for our public meetings, visit the calendar at northattleborough.gov.

PLEASE NOTE: Flock cameras are scheduled for discussion during the Town Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 14. Members of the public are welcome to attend; however, this discussion is not a public hearing, and public comment will not be taken on the Flock agenda item.

A public hearing on Flock cameras will be held Monday, Sept. 28, at which time members of the public will have an opportunity to provide public comment.

Today, our community pauses to remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and to honor the courage, service and sacrifice shown in response to the attacks.

Residents are invited to join the Town at two remembrance ceremonies:

🔹 8:30 a.m. – Student-led ceremony at the North Attleborough High School Football Field, 1 Wilson Whitty Way
🔹 11 a.m. - North Attleboro Fire Department Ceremony at the September 11 Memorial at Baptist Common

We hope you will join us as North Attleborough comes together to remember and reflect.

♻️ RESIDENT NOTICE: RECYCLING COLLECTION

Due to a hydraulic issue with a Waste Management truck, today’s recycling route could not be completed in several areas.

Residents on the following streets who did not have their recycling collected today should leave their recycling toters curbside overnight:

• Raymond A. Sampson Drive
• One side of Hickory Road
• Holmes Road
• Millard Road
• Paine Road, down to Draper Avenue

Waste Management will collect the missed recycling first thing tomorrow morning, Friday, Sept. 11.

Last week, members of the North Attleboro Fire Department, family and friends came together to celebrate Firefighter/EMT John “Coop” Cooper as he officially retired following 36 years of dedicated service to the Department and the North Attleborough community.

Throughout his career, Firefighter Cooper dedicated himself to helping others, both here in North Attleborough and across the country through his service with FEMA Massachusetts Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team.

We are proud to recognize an incredible career and thank Firefighter Cooper for his 36 years of courage, compassion and commitment to the residents of North Attleborough.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Cooper and wishing him a happy, healthy and well-deserved retirement!
