North Apollo Volunteer Fire Department Station 170

North Apollo Volunteer Fire Department Station 170 Volunteer Fire Department The North Apollo VFD is located about 25 miles Northeast of Pittsburgh along the Kiskiminetas River.

Our coverage area consists of a 2 square mile area made up by 2500 residents and is mostly a residential area which includes a major highway, some small businesses, and some light industry. The Department was started in December of 1932, in a small building across from where the department now resides. During the time between 1962 through 1989 NAVFD was dispatched by Rainbow Control (NAVFD'S RC St

ation Color Identifier was Purple). Rainbow Control is now no longer in service and their duties have since been taken over by the Armstrong & Westmoreland County 911 Operating Centers. Along with two engines NAVFD also provided ambulatory care with volunteer paramedics & EMT"s which has also since faded away and EMS operations have be handed over to E.M.M.C (Oklahoma VFD EMS, Vandergrift VFD No.2 EMS, & C&S EMS). At the present time NAVFD is running four units, Engine 170-1, Engine 170-2, Brush 170-1 and Squad 170-1 with 20 active members. This has allowed our department to continue to grow stronger and continue providing fire service not only to our Boro but also providing mutual aid to Apollo Boro, Kiski Twp., Parks Twp., Vandgrift Boro and surrounding areas. We pride ourselves on hard work and determination. Throughout the years as the fire service has undergone many new changes and more time, better equipment, funding, and training have been required leaving NAVFD with its fair share of bumps in the road thus many members have come and gone but we have and will still continue to carry on providing 100% volunteers service to our Community.
