Our theme for this year’s Opening Day celebration was inspired by Fred Rogers’ iconic “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” song.

To celebrate the people who make up our MCIU neighborhood, we passed the mic around and asked our colleagues what makes being part of MCIU special.

Here’s what they had to say…

We are so proud of our colleague, Patrice Semicek from MCIU’s Office of Organizational and Professional Learning, for creating and running GiftEDventure 2026 at Penn State. It was an extraordinary gathering of gifted education professionals from across Pennsylvania who came together to learn, collaborate, and discover new ways to support gifted learners.

Through small cabin-based learning groups, hands-on activities, and inspiring keynote speakers, participants explored new approaches to gifted education, shared ideas with colleagues from across the state, and strengthened their understanding of how to create more equitable opportunities for gifted learners.

We look forward to sharing these practices and strategies with the districts and communities we serve!
