Rashaad Bates for Norristown Municipal Council - District 1

Rashaad Bates for Norristown Municipal Council - District 1 I am honored to announce that I, Rashaad Bates, will be running for a 2nd term for Norristown Municipal Council’s seat for District 1.

Rashaad Bates has been a Norristown resident for over 20 years and attended Stewart Middle School and Norristown High. He was the quiet kid, with a tight circle, pocket full of trading cards and the newest PDA that always lent a helping hand to anyone who needed it. With the positive feedback from peers and strangers over the years his passion for technology and altruism grew stronger. He has been

in the IT field for over a decade and has worked in retail management, corporate, aerospace and currently a small business owner in the field. When it comes to altruism, Rashaad has always been at service for his community. Over the last several years Rashaad has volunteered and served on the Norristown Planning Commission, Keep Norristown Beautiful (KNB), a certified PHS Tree Tender, Design Review Board, Storm Water Advisory Board, computer coach for the Norristown Library and an executive member of the Norristown NAACP chapter. Rashaad has also completed and received recognition from the Norristown’s Citizens Leadership Academy, Norristown’s Citizens Police Academy and the Montgomery County Planning Board of Commissioners. I am running for Norristown Council’s 1st district to improve the quality of life in the community and to continue facilitating the development of our city. I am also committed to making local government more transparent, accountable, and accessible to all the residents. If elected, I would use the experience, knowledge, and leadership skills I have gained to focus on:

- Beautification. I believe all residents want to live in a greener and litter free community and by working with KNB we can continue to host cleanup events, create & save green spaces and help promote the community garden. Also, by working with the Norristown Citizens in Action team we can help residents find programs that can assist them with blighted property issues.

- Assisting organizations with helping the homeless, underserved, and at-risk residents in our community find shelters, homes, and employment.

- Encouraging residents and local organizations to work and engage more with our Local Police and Fire Departments. Public safety awareness is essential to improving the quality of life and were also in a time where we need to continue to build trust between law enforcement and the community it serves.

- Constituency services are my top priority. I have ideas of what I want to focus on, but that may not be your issue at that moment, and I will always do my best to be available to listen and serve the residents of my community. I want to give your voice power. I support the idea that a public utility or large-scale property should not be sold unless the residents get an opportunity to vote on it. Norristown is an unparalleled and diverse community with many different needs and with my background, dedication, and loyalty, I firmly believe that I can be a positive voice and a strong leader for tomorrow. Thank you for your time and I hope that I have your support! Donations are needed and will be very appreciated! Please send me a message if you do NOT want to donate online. Thank You, Norristown!

I’m incredibly honored and humbled to share that I’ve won the primary election. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the residents who came out and voted, believed in our vision, and stood with me throughout this journey. Your trust means everything.

To my family, friends, volunteers, and supporters—thank you for the countless hours, energy and encouragement. This victory belongs to all of us.

I also want to acknowledge my opponent, who brought fresh energy and new ideas to the race. They gave me a run for my money and I’ve already reached out to them about working together. For anyone else who was in the race and didn’t receive the results they hoped for—please don’t hesitate to reach out. Every voice matters, and there are many ways you can still contribute to building a better Norristown.

Now, it’s time to get back to work!

With gratitude,

Rashaad Bates
