In remembrance of D-Day I thought I would try a summer time recipe from the War Department's Technical Manual: "Baking Manual for the Army Cook" from October 1943. There is a very good chance that some of the soldiers who participated in the historic event at Normandy had a slice of this peach pie. As for the results: let's just say that trying to take a recipe meant to make 18 pies and just make 1 wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. The flavor was there but maybe next time I will just go whole hog with the 18! If you are interested in more recipes from this time period, feel free to stop on by and take a look at this cook book.

Big changes are on the horizon for HSMC. To prepare, we recently had temporary shelving installed in our gallery to hold our archives. We thought we would share some "work in progress" pictures with you! Don't worry, we will still have items up for exhibits so keep an eye out for future announcements from us.

Thank you all who braved the scattered showers to attend our Memorial Day Observation at Montgomery Cemetery. The turnout was great (as were the donuts!). Thank you for his efforts to make the day a success!
