Public Works Week is May 17 - 23, 2026, and this year we’re sending our appreciation to the hardworking crews in the City of Normandy Park Public Works Department, the people who keep our streets smooth, our stormwater draining, our fields mowed, our parks beautiful and our city moving. Public Works teams are out there year-round (yes, even in the rain), taking care of roads, sidewalks, storm drains, parks, and so much more. You may not always see them, but Normandy Park feels their impact every single day.

Want to join in and share the love this month? Here are a few easy and meaningful ways to show Public Works some appreciation:

💙 Give a wave or say thanks.
A friendly wave, smile, or quick “thank you” can brighten a crew’s day more than you might think.

“Our crews take pride in keeping Normandy Park safe, clean, and running smoothly. Every thank-you we receive from the community reminds us why we love what we do.” — Ken Courter, Public Works Director

📝 Share a kind word.
A short note or message recognizing the work of Normandy Park Public Works goes straight to the heart. A little appreciation makes a big difference.

📣 Spread the love online.
Give Public Works a shout-out on social media! Sharing a post or story helps highlight the important work happening behind the scenes all over our city. Tag the City on Facebook or and tell us how much you appreciate our Public Works crew.

🚧 Be kind—drive safe.
One of the best gifts you can give is slowing down in work zones, following signs, and giving crews the space they need to work safely. Keeping a safe distance from crews working, is key to keeping our streets safe for everyone.

🌧️ Report issues to help our crews spot issues.
Notice a pothole, clogged storm drain, or other issues? Show some love by reporting it to City Hall. It’s an easy way to connect directly with Public Works and help keep Normandy Park in tip-top shape.

This May, let’s celebrate the City of Normandy Park Public Works Department for all they do, often quietly, always reliably. We love our Public Works team, and we’re grateful for the care they show our community every day.

Show Your Appreciation this May during National Public Works Week
Each year, National Public Works Week (NPWW) is celebrated in May to shine a spotlight on the Public Works field, its importance to local communities, and the people working behind the scenes to make their communities a better place to live. Learn more about National Public Works Week by going to the APWA website:

Soundbath with Cody Blackbird

As part of the Spring into the Arts series, the Normandy Park Arts Commission is offering a free Soundbath in June!
A soundbath is an immersive auditory experience designed to promote relaxation, introspection, and connection. Participants are “bathed” in sound waves rather than water—allowing frequencies, tones, and vibrations to move through the body and mind in a deeply meditative way.
In Cody Blackbird’s Native Flute Soundbath, this experience is grounded in the spirit of the flute itself—an instrument whose origins are deeply connected to nature, breath, and harmony. Traditionally used for storytelling and connection, the Native flute carries a voice that mirrors wind through canyons, the rhythm of water, and the pulse of the earth.
Through layered tones, ambient textures, and live improvisation, Cody creates a space where sound becomes a guide. This immersive journey invites participants to slow down, reconnect, and explore the subtle emotional and physical effects of vibration—anchored by the voice of the oldest woodwind in North America.
This session is both a performance and a shared experience—where ancient resonance meets modern intention.
