The City of Norman Social & Voluntary Services Commission (SVSC) will begin accepting grant applications for the 2026-2027 fiscal year starting Monday, May 4, 2026. The application period will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026.

The hotels in Norman were pretty much at 90% reserved for graduation before OU was announced to be hosting a playoff game. Maybe OU will help the City of Norman out next year and not schedule graduation during the first round of NCAA football playoffs.

Hey friends, thought I’d bring up something that was talked about Tuesday. Council mentioned looking into proposing bond issues for three things that could be on the ballot in April. A bond to build a new fire station, a bond to build a new police station and a bond to build a permanent homeless shelter on Griffin property if/when the state sells us more land at Griffin.

I believe there should be polling happening to determine if any or all should be on the ballot and if they should all three be part of the same ballot question or if they should be three individual questions or police/fire stations one question and homeless shelter it’s own question.

What are your thoughts?

There are plans if police department is relocated, the current location would be sold to a developer to build housing right next to Andrews Park.

The public safety study we had done shows the need for a few new fire stations. Finding the money to staff them is another challenge looking for a solution.

Update on OTA South Extension Turnpike Announcement

Today the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) announced that it will release the revised alignment for the South Extension Turnpike on Tuesday, September 23 at 2 p.m.

•OTA will also hold three Homeowner Open Houses on September 24, 27, and 29 for property owners directly impacted by the proposed alignment. Locations will be announced soon.
