✈️🐾 DOG IS MY COPILOT FLIGHT COMING SOON! 🐾✈️

You may notice in our adoption center that many of our shelter pets are currently marked as “Tagged for Transport” and are unavailable for adoption. That’s because they’re preparing for an exciting journey through our upcoming Dog Is My Copilot transport flight!

These flights are truly lifesaving. Communities like ours in Oklahoma face an overwhelming number of homeless and unwanted animals. By partnering with transport organizations, we’re able to send adoptable pets to areas where there is a much higher demand for dogs and cats, giving them the opportunity to find loving homes they may not have found here.

Even better, every animal that leaves on transport opens up space in our shelter so we can help even more animals from our community who have nowhere else to go.

While many pets are preparing for their big trip, we still have plenty of wonderful dogs and cats available for adoption right here at the shelter! If you’ve been thinking about adding a furry family member, now is a great time to stop by and meet your new best friend.

Thank you for supporting our mission and helping us create more happy endings—both here at home and across the country. ❤️🐶🐱

🎉🐾 HUGO GOT ADOPTED! 🐾🎉

After spending more than five months waiting for his forever family, Hugo has officially found his happy ending! ❤️

Hugo came to us on January 6th, and while his journey to adoption took a little longer than we hoped, it was worth the wait. This sweet boy finally found the family he has been dreaming of, and we couldn’t be happier for him!

Thank you to everyone who shared his posts, cheered him on, and helped spread the word. Most importantly, a huge THANK YOU to Hugo’s new family for opening your hearts and home to him. We know he is going to be loved beyond measure and have the wonderful life he deserves.

Happy tails, Hugo! We can’t wait to see all the adventures ahead for you. 🐶❤️🏡

This is why we do what we do. Congratulations, Hugo! 🥹🐾❤️

UPDATE - ADOPTED!!

Soft as a marshmallow, sweet as can be, and ready to be your new best friend! 🤍🐾

Hi, I’m Marshmallow! 🤍

I’m a 1-year-old Anatolian Shepherd mix looking for my furever home. I came to the shelter as a stray, so my friends here don’t know much about my past, but they do know one thing for sure—I’m a super sweet girl who is ready to start my next chapter with a loving family.

I have a gentle personality, a beautiful smile, and so much love to give. Whether you’re looking for a walking buddy, a couch companion, or just a loyal best friend, I might be the perfect match for you!

I’m vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed, so I’m ready to go home today. Even better, my adoption fee is only $50!

Come meet me at Norman Animal Welfare and see if we’re meant to be together. I can’t wait to find my family! 🐾

**79 days.**

For 79 days, Auggie watched people come and go. She watched other dogs leave the shelter while she waited patiently for her turn.

Today, her turn finally came.

After 79 days in our care, Auggie found her family and walked out the shelter doors for the very last time. ❤️

The wait wasn't always easy, but days like today remind us why we never give up on the long-stay dogs. Every animal deserves someone who sees past the kennel, past the waiting, and sees the incredible companion they've been all along.

Congratulations, Auggie! We are so happy your forever family found you. Thank you to her adopters for giving this sweet girl the happy ending she deserved.

**Happy Adoption Day, Auggie!** 🐾🏡💕

Bringing home a new puppy or dog? 🐶🏡

Housetraining takes patience, consistency, and LOTS of praise — but your new best friend can learn! Here are some tips to help set your pup up for success:

✔️ Take them outside often — especially after naps, meals, playtime, and drinking water
✔️ Use the SAME potty spot each time to help build routine
✔️ Reward immediately with treats and praise when they potty outside
✔️ Feed meals on a schedule instead of free-feeding all day
✔️ Supervise closely indoors to prevent accidents before they happen
✔️ Never punish accidents — accidents usually mean your pup needed more supervision or a quicker potty break
✔️ Clean accidents with an enzyme-based cleaner so lingering smells don’t encourage repeat accidents
✔️ Crates can help with training when used as a safe, positive space
✔️ Teaching a potty cue like “go potty” can help speed things up over time
✔️ Consistency is key — puppies thrive on routine!

Remember: puppies can usually hold their bladder about one hour per month of age. A 3-month-old puppy may only be able to hold it for around 3 hours.

The goal is to make going potty OUTSIDE more rewarding than going inside. Celebrate those successes big time! 🎉🐾

🐾 Lost Pet? Found Pet? Start Here! 🐾

One of the best ways to help a lost pet get back home is by using our Lost & Found page and filing a report. If you find a loose dog or cat, your first instinct may be to “save” them by taking them somewhere else, but unless you’re actively using resources that connect found pets with their families, you may actually make it harder for owners to locate them.

Our Lost & Found page allows community members to submit reports for both lost and found animals using petcolove/lost, helping reunite pets with their families faster. Be sure to check the page regularly and submit a report if you’ve lost or found an animal.

Every year, thousands of lost pets are reunited with their families through Petco Love Lost. This free tool uses photo-matching technology to compare pictures of found pets with reports of missing pets. Whether you’ve lost a pet or found one, uploading a photo takes just a few minutes and could help bring a beloved family member home. 🐾❤️

🐱 A reminder about cats in Norman:
Cats are allowed to be outdoors within city limits as long as they are spayed or neutered. If you see a healthy cat that appears comfortable in its environment, especially one with an ear tip (a small portion of the left ear surgically removed), that cat has likely been sterilized and is part of a managed community cat population. In most cases, the best thing you can do is leave them where they are.

We also offer programs to help spay and neuter both community cats and owned pets. There is no reason for unwanted litters when resources are available to help!

Together, we can help lost pets find their way home and reduce pet overpopulation in our community.
