The camp kicked off its first session of the summer with a fun-filled week of swimming, water games, horseback riding and fishing. Campers and counselors also enjoyed some sweet treats from Beanstalk Sno! Thanks to our campers and counselors for making this first week so memorable!

Jace and Sawyer cruise through the center's hallway as part of the bike group. The group enjoys indoor and outdoor adventures on the bikes.
And speaking of bike riding, we're getting excited for the cyclists who plan to participate in the annual Norman Conquest bike tour hosted by the Bicycle League of Norman.

Camp season starts 🏕
Camp Claphans starts Monday, and our camp counselors are trained and excited to welcome the kids! A special thanks to Main Event of Norman for hosting a game night for the camp staff and to Not Your Average Joe and Dutch Bros Coffee for donating coffee to the group.
The camp also received a donation of quilts from the Pioneer Area Quilters Guild of Ponca City. The group made quilts for campers to use in the cabins. The quilts also have a connection to the camp's namesake, the late Sammy Jack Claphan.
Some of the quilts were made by quilters in the Stilwell area, which was Sammy's hometown.

A sensory sidekick
Kelly Brown, a direct-care specialist at the center, has created a product called the BibBuddy, a sensory support bib designed to keep fidgets and sensory toys within a child's reach.
Kelly was interviewed by reporter Elizabeth Fitz with KWTV - NEWS 9 about the bib, which is pending a patent. Kelly also talked about how her work with the patients at the center inspired the bib.

Remembering Saundra 💗
It is with a deep sadness that we say goodbye to Saundra Myers-Johnson, a longtime employee, beloved colleague, leader, mentor and friend who recently passed away.
Saundra spent decades working with, supporting, guiding and advocating for children with disabilities. She started at the center in 1985 and retired in 2022 as the center’s longtime director of psychological services.
Saundra was honored for her work with the naming of the Saundra Myers-Johnson Psychological Assessment Clinic at the center.
She will be remembered for the dedication she brought to the job, the wealth of knowledge she shared with others and the encouragement and compassion she showed to our patients and their families.
Saundra's work touched countless lives, and she leaves behind an enduring legacy at the center.
