“One of the great mistakes in life is suffering for years because you didn't want to feel foolish for five minutes.

Just start. Just move. You can iterate and change as needed but you can’t do anything if you don’t get started.

I'm always amazed by organizations that send supervisors, managers, and other formal leaders away to "leadership" programs and adopt a "hope for the best" but otherwise unintentional mindset for the formal leader's return to work. Similarly, I find "leadership" programs that fail to incorporate mechanisms of practical application really do a disservice to their students and to those paying the bill for the program. I have attempted to address this gap with the programs I teach by incorporating organizational and leader assessments to help align skills and culture with the training as well as a review of organizational policies to ensure no misalignment between what I teach and how the organization's rules require leaders to conduct themselves.

Executives who go through leadership development programs often come back with new energy and purpose, ready to transform their teams, themselves, and their organizations. I have found both as a coach and someone who has been coached, gaining clarity in the next step is such an incredible outcome provided by coaching. Such outcomes aren't impossible to get to on one's own, but you can get there faster by partnering with a talented coach. It is so rewarding to help others achieve at a faster rate than they thought possible.

My purpose in this post is to bring more awareness to the value of coaching, which is growing across industries. ICMA endorses the value of coaching in the public sector (https://icma.org/icma-coaching-program), and coaching continues to grow in use and value delivery in the private sector. The photo summarizes research by the Randstat Enterprises published in CEO World Magazine, but there is academic research that also shows most coaching clients estimate their ROI/economic benefits of coaching to be between $200,000-$500,000 (Boysen, et al., 2018). Simply put, we can all do better with objective advocacy that good coaching provides.

Really excited to be a part of this team and bring my coaching experience to Law Enforcement Coaching!

We are thrilled to announce that Mica Lunt is joining our team! With a distinguished career spanning three law enforcement agencies, including two prestigious CALEA flagship agencies where he rose to the rank of command staff, Mica brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our organization.

As a former Chief of Police, Mica's leadership and dedication are evident. Mica has also excelled in various specialized roles, including Field Training Officer, Crisis Intervention Team member, instructor, hostage negotiator, and commander of units focused on specialized traffic, community-oriented policing, homeland security, and special events.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mica continues to serve his community as a Reserve Deputy for his local Sheriff's Office while running his successful consulting business and coaching practice. We are excited to have Mica as part of our Law Enforcement Coaching family!
