Big things are happening in Downtown Bloomington!
Connect Transit is proud to bring significant state and federal transit investments to our community with the new Downtown Transit Center—designed to create a safer, more convenient, and more reliable experience for our riders.
We’re excited to share that the project has reached the 60% design phase, marking a major milestone. Once design is complete, the former Market Street parking structure will be removed and construction will move forward on a modern facility built to serve more than 1,500 weekday transfer riders.
“This project is a transformational investment for Connect Transit and our community,” said Deputy Managing Director Brady Lange. “With dedicated state and federal funding, we’re creating a centralized, safe, and accessible space that will greatly improve the daily experience for more than 1,500 riders who rely on downtown transfers.”
The new Downtown Transit Center will feature:
• Improved safety and accessibility for all riders.
• A small, dedicated security office with space for the Bloomington Police Department.
• Public restrooms and a customer service center.
• Indoor waiting areas and a community meeting space.
• More than 90 public parking spaces returning to the site.
With nearly $28 million in secured state and federal funding from partners including the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration, this project represents a major investment in Bloomington’s future.
This long-anticipated project will transform the downtown transit experience, moving riders off busy streets and into a centralized, safe, and welcoming environment.
We’re proud of the progress and grateful for coordination with the City of Bloomington helping move this vision forward. Stay tuned for more updates!
