We were fortunate again to host a visit by the fabulous Illinois State University String Project last week! The String Project is a program through ISU that teaches students 3rd grade and older to play a string instrument. Get your student an early start on playing an instrument!

Congrats to recent Prairieland grad GG on an OUTSTANDING performance of the Star Spangled Banner on a pretty big stage tonight!

Fun Fact: our National Anthem is an incredibly difficult song to sing well because of its range. Singers have to sing very low and very high, and words can be tricky when you’re nervous.

WOW what a great few days of performance! It may be summer, but Prairieland’s Cougars are still out singing, dancing, acting, and making people smile!

Congrats to all who performed with ISU String Project, Community Players Theatre, Music Connections Foundation, and the Town of Normal theater camp!

4th grade families!

This is the culminating event in our instrument unit. Your student has the opportunity to come in and try up to four different instruments before deciding whether to join orchestra or band in fifth grade.

The event is free and open to all fourth grade students in Unit 5. We’d love to see every student attend this event and play an instrument next year.

Our friends at Normal Community High School Iron Choirs are hosting a Meet and Greet designed for younger children for their upcoming performance of The Little Mermaid. Kids can meet the characters and enjoy a shorter version of the show geared towards audience members with shorter attention spans. Check it out!

In the 1890 opera Prince Igor, the mighty prince assembles an army and is preparing to depart for battle when an unexpected Solar Eclipse occurs. The army is suddenly unsure of its prospects but the prince sees it as a positive sign and continues plans.

Upon completion of the eclipse, the army and its entourage sings Glory, Glory to the Radiant Sun.

Enjoy the eclipse and protect your retinas!

WOW! We were lucky to hear Ndere Troupe, an AMAZING drumming and dancing group all the way from the beautiful African country of Uganda!

Our students did a great job, asked some fabulous questions, and got to experience an intense and exhilarating performance.

KG even got a surprise performance and dance party after the performance!

Thank you for sharing such a fun performance! Prairieland Elementary School and McLean County U5 are so lucky to experience such awesome musicians and dancers!

WOO HOO! Once again, Bloomington/Normal has been named one of the Best Communities for Muisc Education! From overseas performance tours to springtime kindergarten concerts, ours is one of the best! Keep singing everyone!
