Ever wonder why Norfolk is called "The Ice Box" of Connecticut?

- Norfolk gained reputation as the states "Ice Box" in 1943, when the coldest-ever reading in Connecticut came in at 37 degrees below zero on February 16th.

Training for the moments that matter most.

Members of the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department practiced victim removal techniques during live burn training at the Litchfield County Regional Fire School — safely removing a rescue dummy down a ladder from a simulated burning structure.

Realistic training builds confidence, teamwork, and the skills needed to protect our community when seconds count.

Rain or shine, training never stops.

Saturday, May 9th, members of the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department alongside several mutual aid partners spent the afternoon at the Litchfield County Regional Fire School participating in live burn training to sharpen the skills that help us better protect and serve our community.

From advancing hose lines to working in extreme heat and low visibility, our volunteers train hard so they’re ready when our neighbors need us most. And today’s weather? Just another challenge to work through.

Train in the rain. Respond in any conditions. Serve with pride.

Interested in giving back to your community? You don’t need prior experience, just dedication and a willingness to help. Whether you want to be a firefighter, help with support operations, or become part of a strong community team, there’s a place for you with us.

Join the team. Serve your community. Make a difference.

Today, May 4th on International Firefighters’ Day, we recognize the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of firefighters everywhere.

From the first alarm to the final call, we move without hesitation, heading toward danger when others step back.

To our members at the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department, and to firefighters around the world, thank you for everything you do.

We see you. We appreciate you. We thank you.

Curling season has officially come to an end.

The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department was at the curling club today assisting the curling club members with rinsing off the rink—kind of ironic, considering it was snowing outside.

Spring is here sort of… we just need to keep thinking warm thoughts and sunshine. Warmer days are coming.
