We spoke with Bri O'Brien, FCS Teacher & FCCLA Adviser at Battle Creek Public Schools on why they choose to be Hope Heroes year after year, and her explanation blew us away! A huge thank you to the BCPS FCCLA Chapter for always showing up for the Hope Fund.

"I am honored to lead the Battle Creek FCCLA Chapter in this journey. It is so easy to say yes to being a part of something bigger, but watching our students turn those words into action and truly live out the values of FCCLA is something I am incredibly proud of.
The Battle Creek FCCLA Chapter continually raises money for the Hope Fund because we believe in being a voice for those who may not have the time or energy to be one for themselves. Through FCCLA’s Stand Up program, we are encouraged to speak up, raise awareness, and make a difference for others. We don't want this to just be something we learn about or say is a part of our values. We want to live it. Pink Out is one way our students to put those values into action while learning the importance of giving back and supporting others in their community.
When someone is battling cancer, their focus needs to be on fighting and taking care of themselves and their family. They shouldn’t have to worry about raising awareness, asking for help, or carrying every burden that comes with such a difficult fight. If we can help alleviate even one small stress or provide support during that time, then what we are doing is worthwhile.
We want our students and our community to stand beside those who are fighting, be their voice when they can’t be, and help make one less thing they have to worry about. They fight cancer, and we fight alongside them."
