MEET MSC’s NEWEST CIVMAR

We are thrilled to welcome Third Assistant Engineer Adrian Teran to the team.

A 2025 graduate of the California Maritime Academy and a San Diego native, Adrian previously served six years in the U.S. Navy as an Electrician aboard the USS Bremerton. Today, he is an ensign in the Navy’s Strategic Sealift Officer program.

Adrian chose a career with Military Sealift Command as a Civil Service Mariner to continue his family’s tradition of military service and his personal commitment to the nation. “America is still number one; therefore, we should all do our part to keep it that way,” he said, “service to the Navy is one way to go.”

Adrian is excited to get his hands dirty doing the work he loves. “Engineers are responsible for fixing motors and engines in high tempo environments, and I can’t wait to get started.” Doing so fills him with a sense of pride and confidence, he said.

While money and travel are obvious reasons to be excited, Adrian said, “I am already looking ahead over the horizon, working towards earning my first officer’s license.” That milestone will take him three years to accomplish he said, providing that he gets the necessary sea time and training to rise to the next level.

To his shipmates, Adrian wants them to know: “I am not a micromanager, I am the kind of guy who will roll up my sleeves to help get the job done. You can describe me as a helper. So, feel free to ask me anything – I want to maintain an open and approachable environment where everyone feels supported.”

Fun Fact: Adrian loves birria, a savory, slow cooked Mexican meat stew. “I look forward to treating my new shipmates to the ultimate cozy comfort food,” he said.

A mariner who is a champion for crew morale elevates the ship’s operational readiness and fosters a culture that is supportive of a safety-first environment. Adrian you are a fantastic addition to the team. Now, let’s go to work!

Military Sealift Command chartered cargo ship MV Ocean Giant, under the operational control of Naval Sealift Transportation Command Pacific (NAVTRANSPAC), is conducting the onload of Army equipment at the Port Of San Diego Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal. The ship is currently supporting the United States Army’s Combined Joint Over-the-Shore (CJLOTS) exercise being held in South Korea.

During the course of the onload, Ocean Giant will receive 83 pieces of Army cargo, including vehicles, to be delivered during the CJLOTS.

CJLOTS is a logistics-centric event where strategic maritime prepositioning ships offload heavy equipment and supplies onto bilateral and joint landing craft, ferries, barges, and other expeditionary craft, which transfer their cargo to the beach. CJLOTS ensures U.S. forces and allied forces will be ready to respond to crises and contingencies at a moment’s notice.

Military Sealift Command rescue and salvage ship USNS Grasp (T-ARS-51) departs the San Diego Bay en route to Hawaii where it will undergo preparations for further support to the Navy operations around the world.

The 255 foot Grasp serves as an element of the United States Navy's Combat Logistics Support Force and provides rescue and salvage services to the fleet at sea. The ship also supports the protection of forces ashore through post-assault salvage operations in close proximity to the shore. It is designed to perform combat salvage, lifting, towing, off-ship firefighting, manned diving operations, and emergency repairs to stranded or disabled vessels.

Congratulations to this week’s Military Sealift Command “Ship in the Spotlight,” USNS Red Cloud (T-AKR 313)!

The USNS Red Cloud successfully supported Maritime Prepositioning Force Exercise training in Jacksonville, Florida, from May 18-29, supporting MSC partners such as Naval Beach Group One, Naval Beach Group Two, Navy Cargo Handling Battalion One and Naval Construction Battalion 14.

The efforts of the crew aboard USNS Red Cloud were critical in providing real-world, hands-on operations training. This training supports the U.S. Navy and MSCs critical sealift and joint logistics missions.

We are incredibly proud of the crew of the USNS Red Cloud. They embody our motto, “We Deliver!”
