As we enjoy the extra day, let's also take a moment to reflect on the significance of Monday: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It's a day to honor the life and incredible legacy of a man who championed equality, justice, and peace for all. 🕊️

Dr. King's dream of a world where people are judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character is a powerful reminder of the work that continues.

🚫 Fleet Fest 2025 Cancelled

Due to the ongoing lapse in appropriations, Fleet Fest 2025 has been cancelled.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and the incredible support from our community, partners, volunteers, and sponsors who helped us plan for this year’s event. ⚓

Fleet Fest remains one of our favorite ways to connect the Navy with the Hampton Roads community, and we look forward to hosting it again in the future.

🚨 Fleet Fest Update 🚨

We wanted to keep you all in the loop — a waiver has been officially submitted to allow Fleet Fest to proceed despite the ongoing government shutdown. We expect to receive a decision by late tomorrow afternoon. 🤞

In the meantime, our team is moving full speed ahead with all preparations to continue executing this important community outreach event. 🚢🎉

✨ Fun Facts about USS Gonzalez (DDG 66):
• Named after Marine Sgt. Alfredo Gonzalez, a Medal of Honor recipient from the Vietnam War 🇺🇸
• Commissioned in 1996, she is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer designed for multi-mission power 💪
• Her motto is “Beyond the Call” 🛡️
• She has deployed around the globe, protecting freedom on the seas 🌍

Here are some fun facts about this incredible aircraft carrier:
✅ The flight deck is more than 4.5 acres in size 🛫
✅ She weighs nearly 97,000 tons ⚖️
✅ The ship is home to more than 5,000 Sailors 👨‍✈️👩‍✈️
