Sometimes the best window treatment solution is the one that works with the architecture, not against it.

For this residential project, the goal was to add privacy and light control while preserving the character of these unusually shaped windows and keeping the upper architectural glass exposed.

WCD measured, fabricated, and installed custom light-filtering roller shades specifically for the lower window openings. Careful sizing allowed the shades to fit cleanly within the detailed trim without covering the decorative glass above.

The shades use a clutch-operated system with an ANSI-certified tensioner for a simple, controlled operation.

Projects like this are a good example of why custom window treatments go beyond choosing a fabric and a color. Window shape, trim, mounting space, operation, and how the room will actually be used all influence the final solution.

From measure through fabrication and installation, WCD works through the details to create a solution that fits the space.

Choosing the right shade fabric can make all the difference.

Not sure whether your project needs Blackout, Room Darkening, or Solar Screen? Here’s a quick guide:

Blackout: Maximum light control and privacy. Ideal for bedrooms, media rooms, and spaces where darkness matters.

Room Darkening: Softens incoming light, reduces glare, and provides added privacy while maintaining a comfortable ambient glow.

Solar Screen: Helps reduce glare and solar heat while preserving the view outdoors. It’s an excellent choice for offices and commercial spaces.

The right fabric depends on how you want the space to look, feel, and perform.

Did you know that not all roller shade fabrics perform the same? 🤔

The difference between 1% and 3% C-Screen comes down to the openness factor and choosing the right one can make a big impact on glare control, privacy, natural light, and comfort.

As part of our current project at the University of Tennessee Veterinary School with Knoxville Venetian Blind Company, we're installing both 1% and 3% C-Screen roller shades because different areas of the building receive different amounts of natural sunlight.

Selecting the right openness factor helps create the perfect balance of daylight, heat reduction, and outdoor views throughout the space.
