Today, Nokomis Fire Department was able to train for an ice rescue with Nokomis Witt Ambulance Service and Witt Fire Department. It’s alway great when we cannot only train on our rescue techniques but also work on coordination with our mutual aid partners. As alway check the ice thickness and follow the recommended safety measures especially as temps rise.

NOKOMIS, Ill. (WAND) - Three different combine fires were reported in Nokomis over the last several days.

Due to the dry conditions and lack of rain in the near future, a burn ban has been implemented for the Nokomis Area Fire Protection District. Chief Smalley will reassess the fire risk in 7 days.

It’s still dry folks. NAFPD has responded to two combine fires in two days. Luckily one was very small and the other farmer had an implement handy to knock down the bean stubble fire.

We continue to ask farmers to have disks and cultivators hooked up when possible as we do not expect any significant rain in the near future and are quickly coming back up on high danger fire conditions.

Always have a fire extinguisher handy and blow off the dust around the engines, feeder houses and belts daily if possible.
