There's a rate most people only meet at 9pm on a Saturday: the after-hours emergency fee.

Babe's Benefits members don't pay it. Weekends, holidays, the middle of the night - the emergency rate is off the table. And when a storm has the whole county calling the same morning, members get scheduled first.

It isn't a discount gimmick. It's what membership is actually for.

A day in dispatch at Babe's is never the same twice.

Calls coming in, schedules being built, technicians being routed so the closest truck gets to the right house. Freya knows where every tech is and what they're heading into.

The part most people never see is the calls going the other way. Quarterly check-ins with customers we haven't heard from in a while. Monthly check-ins with Babe's Benefits members. Nobody has to be having a problem for us to pick up the phone.

The worst part of calling a contractor is not knowing what happens next.

At Babe's, it goes like this: someone friendly answers, takes your name and address, gets the details of what you're dealing with, and passes it to dispatch. A technician gets sent out.

Then we keep talking to you. Text, email, phone, whatever works. If your technician is running behind or something shifts on the schedule, you find out from us, not from watching the driveway.

Here is the whole thing, start to finish.

We arrive and let you know we are on site. The water goes off, usually for 10 to 15 minutes. We test the device with a differential pressure gauge to see whether it passes or fails. Water goes back on, and you hear the result before we leave.

What happens next depends on that result. Either way, we submit the paperwork to the municipality. If it failed, you get your options, rebuild or replace, and we do the work once you decide.

Two things worth knowing. You do not need to be home for the test. But the device does need to be clear, about a foot of space all the way around, so cut back anything growing over it before test day.

A failed backflow test does not automatically mean a new device.

When one fails there are usually two paths: rebuild the internals, or replace the whole assembly. Which one makes sense comes down to the type of device, its age, the condition of the internals, and the water quality where you are. Sometimes a rebuild buys you years. Sometimes what we find inside makes replacement the honest answer.

Our technicians are not commission-based, so the recommendation you get is about the device, not the invoice.

Whichever way it goes, we record the work and send it to the municipality on your behalf. Repair or replacement, the file gets closed properly.

That letter from the municipality is not junk mail.

A backflow testing notice means your device is due to be tested, certified, and confirmed operational. The letter carries what we need to get started: your meter number, the serial number of the device, and the type of backflow you have. Most municipalities send one to three notices, and the window is usually 30 to 60 days. Your actual deadline is printed on it.

If it gets ignored, the letters keep coming. The last step is not a letter. They come out and shut the water off at the meter.

Babe's can test your backflow, certify it, and rebuild or replace it if it does not pass. Family owned since 1957.
