Still don't know what you're doing for Labor Day?

Missouri has around 7,500 caves. More than almost any state in the country. Plenty of them are open today, and too many people have never been in one.

This is our 99th year.

Arthur Browning found this cave in 1925. It opened to the public in 1927. Three generations of the same family have run it since, and in 2027, we hit 100.

We're going to be talking about that a lot over the next year. For now, we just want to know: if you've been here before, when was your first visit?

Every cave has stalactites. Not every cave has a formation that makes sound.

The Musical Chimes are a set of thin limestone formations that ring slightly different notes when tapped, formed by thousands of years of water finding the exact same path drop by drop. It's one of the only formations like it in this part of the country, and it's usually the moment on the tour where everybody goes quiet and starts listening instead of looking.

Fall and winter hours start September 1.

Sunday through Thursday: tours 10am to 4pm
Friday and Saturday: tours 10am to 5pm

Same cave, same 56 degrees, just a slightly shorter day most of the week. Plan your visit accordingly, and feel free to drop a comment if you have questions about timing for a group or a specific date.

This is the actual farmhouse the Browning family lived in.
A couple hundred feet from the cave. You can stay there.

4 bedroom suites. Full kitchen. Porch for after.

Close enough to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art or to make a real trip out of it.

Most people come for the formations. Some people leave more excited about what's living in the water.

The Bristly cave crayfish only exists in a handful of caves in this part of the country, and Bluff Dwellers is one of them. No eyes, almost no color, built for a world with zero sunlight.

Keep your eyes on the water this weekend. Tours daily 10am to 5pm.

We are a 99-year-old cave. We are still learning how to use the internet.

The limestone formations in this photo are 300 million years old. The photo itself was posted sideways for 24 hours before one of our guides caught it.

5NEWS came out and did a piece on us.

Our favorite detail they got right: the duck. A guide left a duck near one of the pools decades ago, after some kids said the water looked like a duck pond. It's still there. It's been part of the tour longer than our current staff have been alive. (even the owners!)
