Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder http://damariscottamills.org/history.html They are an important prey for osprey, eagles, great blue heron, loons, larger fish and many other species.

Alewives are important to the ecology of freshwater, estuarine, and marine environments especially the Damariscotta River oysters. They need the ladder to access the lake to spawn. WE have restored the 1807 stone weir ladder to improve the alewife migration. We need to rebuild the foot bridge and replace the fish dippers. The ladder is a cherished and picturesque spot.

Harvest is over-
Due to a strong showing of blueback herring (check out the eggs covering the bottom of the lower fish ladder) and fewer than normal alewives, the harvest is over for the year.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Silver Alert for 76-year-old Terri Benner of Pemaquid. Ms. Benner who suffers from cognitive issues was last seen on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at approximately 1:30 PM at her home on Bristol Road in Pemaquid. Ms. Benner is a white female, 5’00”, 200 lbs., with gray hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a white and blue nightgown. She is driving a silver 2004 Toyota Tundra with Maine registration 511LDE. She does not have a cell phone. If located please call the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office at 207.882.7332.

There are some people selling tees and such at the electric plant parking lot. They are NOT affiliated with the ladder.
Only sales at the fishhouse are official fundraisers for the ladder.
