CR23 - Grand Boulevard from Van Antwerp to Keyes Avenue and side streets are impacted by the Schenectady County paving project. Work will continue through Wednesday, June 17th and no paving will occur over the weekend. Expect changes in traffic patterns and delays beginning Monday, June 15th so use alternate roads to navigate through town.
Grand Boulevard (County Route 23) is a two-lane divided collector roadway located in the Town of Niskayuna. The project corridor extends approximately 2,600 feet along Grand Boulevard, from Keyes Avenue to Van Antwerp Road. The proposed pavement restoration will restore roadway functionality, address existing surface deficiencies, and extend the service life of the corridor.
The project includes a 2-inch mill and inlay treatment of the roadway surface to maintain the highway in a structurally sound condition. New pavement markings will be installed to clearly delineate travel lanes, parking areas, pedestrian facilities, and shared bicycle accommodations. Each travel lane will be 13 feet wide and designated as a shared-use lane for motorists and bicyclists, with Bicycle Shared Lane Markings (sharrows) and accompanying bicycle signage. A 9-foot-wide on-street parking lane will be provided adjacent to the driving lane.
Pedestrian safety and accessibility improvements are also included as part of the project. These improvements consist of upgraded ADA-compliant curb ramps, high-visibility crosswalk installations, and enhanced accommodations for bicycle travel.
The overall objective of this project is to correct identified pavement deficiencies, improve multimodal safety and accessibility, and extend the useful life of Grand Boulevard while maintaining its function as a key local collector roadway.
