Niles New Tech BioEarth learners presented their research posters on Michigan invasive species to the City of Niles.

These posters will be published and posted along the Niles Riverwalk to inform the community of the dangers of the invasive species to our local economy, ecosystems, and communities.

Congratulations Lorraine!

Today we celebrate top ten graduate Lorraine Holtgren.
Graduating fifth in her class, Lorraine is the daughter of Jerry and Alma Holtgren. During her freshman and sophomore year she was a part of the New Tech Program receiving exemplary project awards in American Studies and Health Wealth. In this process she gained a unique skill set. During her junior and senior year she took 12 courses at Lake Michigan College and multiple AP classes. Additionally, she received recognition on the LMC Dean of Students list. She is also a recipient of the Stephen N. Tyler Award. She has been an active member in Leaner Voice and the Michigan Gateway Foundations Youth Advisory Council (YAC), and on the Varsity Swim team for four years. After graduation Lorraine plans to attend Hope College and double major in neuroscience and biology while pursuing pre-medicine. In her free time she enjoys baking, hiking, reading, and listening to Taylor Swift. Lorraine’s advice for underclassmen: Be your authentic self. Your journey is different from everyone around you so don't be afraid to embrace your unique gifts and to follow your own path. Start each day with confidence, excitement, and curiosity. Embrace challenges with an open mind and reflection. Remember, the best is yet to come!
