John E. Mackey Award
The John E. Mackey Award is one of the highest honors we present at Jessamine County EMS. It represents more than just excellence, it honors the legacy of a man who embodied everything good about our profession.
John Mackey, or 'Mackey' as many of us knew him, was a beloved friend, colleague, and mentor. He passed away in the line of duty, but his legacy lives on through this award and through the values he held so dearly, particularly his passion for education and innovation in EMS. John believed deeply in advancing our profession, not for accolades, but for the sake of our patients and the communities we serve.
This yearâs recipient exemplifies that spirit in every way. Paramedic Madison Tanksley has not only committed herself to excellence in clinical care, but she has taken on one of the most ambitious and impactful projects Jessamine County EMS has ever pursued: the development and successful implementation of our Whole Blood Program.
Because of Madisonâs relentless work, Jessamine County EMS became one of the very first services in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to carry and administer whole blood in the prehospital setting, joining less than 1% of EMS agencies across the entire country.
This is more than a milestone. Itâs a life-saving leap forward in trauma care. The research, training, coordination, and logistics required to make this a reality are daunting, and yet Madison took it head-on, working collaboratively with leadership, our medical direction, regional partners, and our entire field staff to ensure the programâs success.
Her commitment to pushing the boundaries of whatâs possible in EMS directly honors the memory of Mackey.
Madison, your tireless pursuit of excellence, your vision, and your determination have left a mark on this department and this community that will endure for years to come.
It is with great pride and deep gratitude that we present for the 2nd year in a row the 2025 John E. Mackey Award to Paramedic Madison Tanksley!
