Please welcome Deputy Hunter Kelly to our agency. Deputy Kelly comes to us from Harrodsburg Police and has over 4 years experience in law enforcement. He was sworn in this morning by Judge Executive David West.

On August 24, 2026, the Nicholasville Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit and Patrol Division, in partnership with the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Viking, conducted an interdiction traffic stop.

Said stop resulted in approximately 1/4 lb. of suspected methamphetamine being seized.

Petie Taylor was taken into custody and charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st degree (Methamphetamine).

Our K9 Instructor, Pat Murray, will be speaking about the important role police K9s play in law enforcement.
From tracking and locating missing or endangered individuals, detecting narcotics, assisting in searches, our K-9 unit provides capabilities that are incredibly valuable to our community!

Today, on National Purple Heart Day, we recognize Deputy and K-9 Handler Carson Gentry for his remarkable service and sacrifice to our nation.
Before serving the citizens of Jessamine County, Deputy Gentry honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. This award is one of our nation's most distinguished military honors, presented to those who have been wounded or killed in the line of duty while serving our country.
Today we honor all of the Purple Heart Recipients.
