Strength through united action guided by intelligence is the hallmark of organized labor.

Such unity is vital for the mutual protection and advancement of the interests and general welfare of the fire fighters, therefore, we have formed this Local, with the objects duly noted as being:
1. To unite in one organization, regardless of creed, color, gender, or nationality, all fire fighters eligible for membership.
2. To promote the establishment of just and reasonable working conditions

3. To provide representation by the Local before groups or organizations that are responsible for pay, working conditions, welfare, or other matters affecting the members of the Local.
4. To encourage research, education, training, and to make available pertinent information.
5. To improve public relations and to cooperate with other community groups.
6. To improve the leadership and training of the officers and members of this Local.
7. To encourage active membership and affiliations in appropriate labor groups.
8. To participate on committees within the Local or in other groups whose decisions affect the welfare of the organization.
9. To assist and counsel our members in times of distress; and
10. To cultivate friendship and fellowship among its members. Description
The IAFF Local 4289 represents the Firefighters, Lieutenants, Captains and Battalion Chiefs that work 24-hour shifts providing fire suppression, emergency mititgation, general assistance, and public education to the citizens of our great city of Nicholasville, Kentucky. General Information
We represent the interests of not only the members of the department but the interests of the citizens of Nicholasville and those that vist Nicholasville. Our goal is to have the most professional, well equipped and trained fire department to serve the community. As well as ensure that the pay, benefits, safety and other working conditions of the members and up to standard.

The Bloomington Fire Department has experienced a surge in recruitment since adjusting its shift schedule last year. Firefighters used to work 24 hours on and 48 hours off, and now work 24 hours on followed by 72 hours off, adding an extra day off between shifts.

Six L4289 Members recently made the cut and will be members of Kentucky Task Force 1 (KYTF-1) Team. This team consists of over 200 highly dedicated and skilled firefighters, ready to deploy throughout the Commonwealth during natural disasters and other events, even across the US if requested. Over 1100 applications were processed before the final roster was made. Huge congratulations to those six members!!

We aren’t saying being a Union Member is what pushed them over the edge to make the final cut, but you also cannot prove otherwise 😉.
